TOS Enterprise Scratchbuild

What a lot of hard work this must have been. I wouldn't have thought it possible with styrene alone.
I was following it from the beginning... I actually wondered at first if he was gonna finish it, the sheer drive this project took was amazing. About halfway through when I realized he had the moxie as well as the talent, I knew it would turn out great. As a big styrene fan myself, I'm so very impressed. What Glorbes turned out was not so much a model as a styrene sculpture.

Fantastic.:love

That is a really cool way to build this model. When I saw the first couple pics of the model with all the layers of styrene, I thought, that would be really cool to leave it open like that, add a bunch of levels and other detailing and turn it into a cut-away! Fantastic job!!! Especially for your first! Blows mine away!(y)thumbsup

Well done. Sorry I missed this but it came up in a search and I took a look.

So what's next from you?

Steve

Whoa...praise from Caesar! Thanks so much Steve...I didn't realize you had posted on this. It means a lot seeing as how you spurred me on to attempt this. Despite the faults, its nice to know that you're able to appreciate my work for what it is.

Thanks also to everyone else who've commented on this project. Moresith21, I actually had that very thought when I was constructing this thing...the open, cell-like structure sort of lends itself to it in a way.

It's funny, because this build actually came together very quickly, and I used minimal tools and materials (a knife, a few tubes of glue, styrene, and putty). It's been criticized for the approach I took, and in some ways I can understand that...but the end result gave me what I wanted, all be it with a few lumps and bumps, and it was really a blast to make. Even with its flaws, it really is my favorite build to date.

Is this the Playmates TOS Enterprise? If so, that's the same one I got my dad for his birthday, which is sitting on my display case. :)

No it's all scratch built from Styrene and quite a bit larger than the Playmates. Go back and read through his thread and you'll see the construction he used.

Hope that helps,

Steve

Oh, okay. Sorry about the confusion. Even so, that's still an amazing ship, and such an amazing job in detailing I couldn't tell if it was a scratchbuild, a model kit or the Playmates toy. :D

Nice scratch build. I took a slightly different approach when I built mine, but hey, there's more than one way to skin a Starship.

That looks really great for a Scratch build, Too bad I have not got the skill to tackle something like this.

Thank You for your words of Inspiration, I have been tring my hand at ST Prop making (but I am still a novice)....Again Thank You.

Yeah, This Star Trek III Communicator is looking like a real beast to tackle, But there are some theads here that will help me along....

I also have to complete my NX Phase Rifle,
Not looking forward to that one.

Thanks for the pep talk....

Wow!
My mother passed away recently, and reading this thread reminded me of something I'd forgotten about: my first attempt at building a tiny model of the Enterprise in my dim and distant youth, using one of her chair-caning pegs for the secondary hull and a poker chip for the saucer (can't remember what the engines were made from)! Thanks for the memories...and for a job well-done!

Yeah, thanks for the bump on the five month old thread, at least that was the last response. This inspires me to get more done on mine. Thanks.

Whoa! I'd not seen this thread before.

Awesome work! Gotta be the best scratchbuild of it's size I've ever seen! Fantastic and thanks for sharing.
