I'm in desperate need of a replacement stand. Just looking at the stock one makes me think it's going to tip over!

That is one kick a$$ build you did on that 'E'! Definitely didn't tke any chances with the masking, either! The gloss look you have is making me think about that for mine. I'm going to go non glos and see how it looks. Might pick up another and do the gloss on that.
I always hated the stand with the AMT kit and am surprised my 'better' older kit I've had on my shelf never rocked over, and it has been on a shelf for years. I'll post some shots of the stand I crafted later today. It looks a ton better way up above the table top.
I gave my new kit parts their first paint coat last evening, and the second this AM. Perfect drying weather here in Mass, so I'm taking advantage of it.

The scout I did years ago was mounted on a clear acrylic rod and base, I'm thinking brass or aluminum tubing for my new builds since it's sturdier and easier to find, it would also be handy for those wishing to do some lighting running the wiring to the power source from the base.
It's interesting that the Round 2 (2008) repop of the AMT kit has no painting instructions but does have decals for 4 different versions of the ship.

With all the extra work I am doing with the Refit, and evel the lighting for my Galaxy Quest protector, I'm kinda missing the experience I had building this out of the box.
With an OOB build, you don't have to worry about electronics, or upgrade parts - just fallow the instructions, take your time with puttying and sanding and make it as beautiful a build as you can possibly do.
I gotta think of another fun kit to build OOB real soon....aftermarket stuff like lights and whatnot really take a lot of time away from actual building.

Hello all! Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend (in the US, anyways).
I put in a few updates dated 7/4/2010 in the blog for the TOS Enterprise rebuild. I still have some work to do, but the model is looking good and I'm pleased with the results so far. I definitely recomment JT Graphics for replacement decals, too!

Your model is coming along quite well. If anything, you had a harder go of it trying to rebuild an earlier long box E model (especially those pylons). Nice touch doing it as the Constellation, considering the kit's use in TOS Trek (so technically it would be a studio model I guess).

Thanks! I forgot how much fun (and mentally relaxing) building these things can be. And you're right, as this is an original pressing, it could be considered a studio model. When I first found this kit packed away in my attic, I found I had tried, along time ago, to make this ship look like the one in the episode by splashing water color black paint on the saucer. Guess I had this idea even way back then.

Does someone have measurements or a scan of the 2 elongated triangle markings on the bottom of the saucer?
The AMT / Round2 kit doesn't have them on the decal sheet or embossed on the model.

ok. The triangles are 1 1/4 inches in length, by 1/2 inch width at the base.

I've been lax on updates to this thread as I've been also working on my other re-builds and new builds. So much formulti-tasking.
Anyways, minus the gloss coating to seal in the decals, this re-build is complete, and looks great mounted on it's new stand. I haven't ben able to do any painting for a few weeks as we've been having very humid weather and it would bubble up pretty severely. So, I've been focusing on the bridge lighting and the new TOS E lighting systems - at least humidity doesn't bother solder!
Also picked up a few 1981 and a 1968 AMT pressings off of ebay of the TOS E for additional builds as other ships or bashing down the line.
So, updates on the way soon...:lol

Hope everyone's having a great summer. I haven't posted in a while and cannot recall if I sent a link with the final look of the rebuild. Looks pretty good. Re-marked it as the Constellation and have it on a 2 foot post behind my home office. Latest pics are toward the bottom. I'll take a few of it as it looks in the office, too. Not bad for a 35 year old unit found in a box.
