Torchwood: Jack's coat?

How accurate is it too? You mentioned you replaced the buttons, but does it have the right belt? Number of buttons? Ranking?

That depends..... the first jacket (in who)was blue and wool so its stiffer, the (torchwood) jacket is not wool and is more grey than blue and flows more freely. This Jacket is more in line with the first one. Not sure what specific belt your looking for but i will take some pics. It does not have the cut out slit in the back. It comes with 8 plain brass buttons. Rankings could be better...but i am planning on upgrading them. It is lined but is not removable.

Hope this helps.

Definately more pics please. I'm not crazy about a wool coat, I'd rather a replica that has the faux wool like the one Barrowman actually wears.

Here's what I meant, the belt that is "tied" off in the back, instead of looping around in front. Not sure if this is a Who or Torch coat, though he's with The Doc and Martha, so...

This one shows it too, kind of...

Thanks for getting those up so quick! That does look like it could be a promising alternative to having one shipped from the UK.

One thing though, on their website they list the RAF Greatcoat as "arriving shortly." Are they actually in stock, and they just haven't updated the page? Or did you manage to get one ahead of time?

Those are great pics. I just emailed them to ask if they can use a substitute for wool since I don't care about historical accuracy.

Glad to help.... you may want to ask if they can custom color also....
mine is VERY BLUE .. with just a tint of grey... of course depending upon which version jacket you are going for...

The latest Torchwood magazine has a little bit about Jack's coat. There are 5 versions of it: The Hero one, a pre-shrunk 'wet' one, one that's slightly shorter in the length for when he's running so it doesn't catch on his heels, and 2 stunt ones (that used to be hero ones from the first season).

It's made from a mole-skin material so it's much lighter and looks more dramatic than a real RAF coat.

I got a reply already, they can do the coat in other fabrics, just need to know what.

Mole skin hmmm? Anyone got a source for a color accurate to Torchwood version?

How about this? The right shade of blue would be a ***** to find without consulting the costume dept.

And the paragraph:

"We always wanted to keep the World War Two hero look for Captain Jack, so all his outfits have a 1940's flavour. We knew he'd be runing around a lot, so I re-designed his RAF great coat from Doctor Who to make it more fluid, because the real things are very weighty. John is allergic to wool, so we used a cotton moleskin instead, which is much lighter and gives you that movement. The rest of Jack's costumes are losely wartime based, so he has big war time trousers which are getting more and more styled to suit his figure. There are actually five Captain Jack coats used on the show - one hero version which is used for most scenes, one wet coat made with a pre-shrunk fabric, a running coat which is slightly shorter so John's heels don't catch when he runs and two stunt coats - which were 'hero coats' back in series 1."

Edit: Or here: http://www.brisbanemoss.co.uk/index.asp and search by colour for 'navy' and then scroll down to the moleskin section.

Well, if the fabric is kept a cotton, or natural blend, then it can always be dyed a little to bring it closer to the color wanted!

I know this isn't coat related, but does anyone know the type of footwear that Jack uses?

I tried looking randomly at UK shoe vendors, but that didn't get me far.

I'd love to know the style too. My payless brown shoes aren't exactly crying out "accurate".
