Anyone know the make / model of Jack's long coat in Torchwood?

is it an off the shelf thing or a custom?

It is suppose to be a vintage RAF issue officer's coat from WW2, but that being said.
The one that Barrowman wears is a custom made coat. Not only does it fit too well to be off the rack, but he is deathly allergic to wool. The orignal coats are wool, so his is custom made for him out of a non-wool material.

If you are looking for one and do happen to find one on Ebay in England, be warned that it is very a heavy coat and would cost more to ship it to the US than you would pay for the coat itself.
It is a very specific coat and not easy to find. I have looked but not found the right one often. The one time I did find it, the cost to have it shipped to the US was nearly $100.00.

You sure it's custom? Cos I've got a coat I've been wearing for years that is pretty identical right down to the length and it's not wool although it looks it. And as for weight, it's pretty light. I bought it back 1993 for about £15.

it looks like the coat from dr. who when he was introduced was a ral one... thick, bulky, etc...

but that torchwood has a custom one. more tailored, much nicer looking.

the RAF coats seem fairly cheap... around $80. but as you say, shipping will be bad. maybe i'll get lucky and find one stateside.

The Coat is indeed a RAF greycoat see pic

But very similar to a Luftwaffe grey coat too :rolleyes

and sure enough... over $100 to ship it to the US. overall though i'm quite happy with it. it's got to visit a tailor to adjust the sleeves a bit. it fits well, but the sleeves are about an inch too long for me.

the buttons are staybrite and not brass, but i don't know that i'm going to be detailed enough about this to replace them. i suppose if good, cheap buttons fall on my lap i will!

i just bought the rank slides tonight. now i need suspenders!

one thing to consider when getting a greatcoat is that an enlisted RAF greatcoat tends to be made of a slightly scratchier hot uncomfortable material. it also creases more easily and tends to keep the crease for a while until the material loosens up.

officers greatcoats (which I think CApt Jack's is the pattern for) usually made out of thinner, better material. Often, many RAF officers would get a greatcoat made to pattern by a private tailor and eschew the 'issue' greatcoat altogether.

i think jack's is an officer style since he has the rank slides on the epaulets, and i don't think the enlisted ones have epaulets (though i'm FAR removed from an expert)

It looks like this US site will be producing replicas in the near future -- and $155 delievered is a great price point...

I will definitely be watching for this. I want one so much but it costs too much to ship a real one to the US from the UK and this one will be new and tailored. I can't wait, but they are not in the US. They seem to be in India.

More details please. What material is the coat? Can we see some closer pics of the coat with you out of it? Inside of coat, etc. How heavy is it? Does it have a liner?

Thanks for asking that in the open, because that is pretty much what I asked when I PM'ed Zuul and haven't heard back from him yet. I really want those answers too.
