Lots of threads on Arc reactors, most are for display. Did anyone ever do one that is wearable?
I made a (amateurish) wearable "Malibu" arc reactor a few years back. No pics available of the harness, but basically I made this:
Then I covered the back with electrically insulating plastic (read: cling wrap and electrical tape). Once that was done I used a large sized hose-clamp to attach two straps by their ends.
The straps were each:
- held at one end by the hose clamp
- went over my shoulder
- across my back
- under the armpit opposite the side it started
- and clamped to the reactor by it's opposite end
IMPORTANT: The straps came out of the hose clamp
on the same side as the front of the arc reactor. This helps press the reactor against your chest.
It's a bit more complicated, because the straps were adjustable using back-pack strap accessories, and probably should have included push-clips for ease of use.
I then took a piece of white card stock, cut a hole the diameter of the reactor casing, carefully taped that to the inside of the shirt in the exact spot the arc reactor went, then cut out (most) of the material in the hole, folded the material at the edges over in through the hole, glued them in place, and cracked a beer.
The card stock keeps the shirt crisp and smooth(ish) there, and sits on top of the straps, giving the illusion that your chest starts less than an inch from the front of the reactor.
But you can look into the reactor and see it goes deeper.
Quick, cheap, dirty, and my first real RPF build.
