Tony Stark Arc Reactor - wearable

I was mainly just curious about the pepakura version. Your Instructable looks pretty darn sweet though! Well done! How long did it take you to cut all those little ovals in the center ring. I bet it took forever!

Does anyone have contact info for Russell Bobbitt? It seems he is the gentleman responsible for the lovely Arc Reactors/Chest RT's in Ironman.

I am still looking for something decent. Anyone making these yet? My electronics skills and small prop skills are questionable at best lol

Hello!
I made one wearable and bright. No wiring needed since it stays with magnets to the t-shirt.
The pics are from non-updated one, now it has more rings inside for accuracy.

I'm waiting for some order to put the updates on, since it's for sale on ebay...not cheap, sorry, amount of hours and not cheap materials...

Nevermind, I hope you like it!
See ya!

a member named ThrowingChicken had kits of the first version that he was selling. i picked one up and its fantastic. he might still have his molds.

Whatever happened to Hyperdyne's reactor project? He had a thread, at the JY, with a lightboard for LEDs. Not sure if it went somewhere.

I made these two. The first is a one-up and the second was from a kit I made a couple of years back.

Was wondering this too. Found this in the Member Ban Log thread.

"01.05.2011 - kaiwalkerz has been banned for sales related issues, respect issues, threatening legal actions"

Very nice is that the kit on some website ? I forgot the link but I hope he's still selling kits I sent a email..

Seriously I wish I knew more details from kaiwalkerz, I'd really love to buy his kit from eBay but he hasn't responded to my msgs about pics worn and better pics of how it looks etc.. Like he doesn't want to show he is banned or something.. Worries me a bit but at least ebay and paypals protection is there.

The whole thing here on why he got banned... http://www.therpf.com/f12/guy-having-go-me-why-100539/

May I say for the record throwingchicken made a great Arc love to see it come back..

Thanks mockle ,Wow in that thread I don't get how he got banned if in the end everything was resolved and the mods were ok with him.. I just don't want to buy something from someone that has been banned here, and not knowing the cause that could effect my purchase.. I wish there were more people selling arc kits =\

Lots of threads on Arc reactors, most are for display. Did anyone ever do one that is wearable?

I made a (amateurish) wearable "Malibu" arc reactor a few years back. No pics available of the harness, but basically I made this:

Then I covered the back with electrically insulating plastic (read: cling wrap and electrical tape). Once that was done I used a large sized hose-clamp to attach two straps by their ends.

The straps were each:

  1. held at one end by the hose clamp
  2. went over my shoulder
  3. across my back
  4. under the armpit opposite the side it started
  5. and clamped to the reactor by it's opposite end

IMPORTANT: The straps came out of the hose clamp on the same side as the front of the arc reactor. This helps press the reactor against your chest.

It's a bit more complicated, because the straps were adjustable using back-pack strap accessories, and probably should have included push-clips for ease of use.

I then took a piece of white card stock, cut a hole the diameter of the reactor casing, carefully taped that to the inside of the shirt in the exact spot the arc reactor went, then cut out (most) of the material in the hole, folded the material at the edges over in through the hole, glued them in place, and cracked a beer.

The card stock keeps the shirt crisp and smooth(ish) there, and sits on top of the straps, giving the illusion that your chest starts less than an inch from the front of the reactor. But you can look into the reactor and see it goes deeper.

Quick, cheap, dirty, and my first real RPF build.
