Tom's ROTJ DL44 blaster

I made resin shins using scraps because the Mac grips were different sizes and shorter than the denix frame!

seen with a field Marshall scope, and my too big real one

I had a weird day yesterday. Painting indoors with a heat gun. Went a little too far on the body paint, but then spent an hour trying to get the trigger spring back in place.

That's right, I went ahead and modified the trigger a little! Hand files and a dremel got it pointy and thinner

I used the professional flat black cans on the body again, but satin black on the grips and a little on the scope. Still trying to source the correct scope. Nothing with a 1" body is correct

You can still sort of see the 9s in the grips, but only in angled light. My prop day went downhill a little, some days you are on point and others you're not, so I'm going to see what's what after they cure a little. This was last night

Oh I forgot, I used the super glue and baking soda trick to fill the gaps between the shims and the gun body! The shims were not rectangular in profile leaving little v shaped gaps around them

I finally got around to clear coating this on my one day off lately... oh yea.. the scope..

A month and a half ago i managed to find a modern equivilant (i hoped) for the rear of the scope. The ones not machined from derlin. It never came, an ebay case happened, etc.

I think it was a combination of things but customs sent it to me without the shipping box. Super weird.

Anyway this is a crappy chinese air gun scope. Really not worth very much money, but it was the only one i could find that was close to boba debt and fieldmarshalls replicas.

This is a 3x7x28 scope. All the 4x32s are too big and a bunch of 4x20s dont have a big scope bell. The body of the real one is closer to 4x20s, very skinny. Welp, here it is.

I disassembled and chopped it to length. I liked it so much i replaced the back half of my Fieldmarshall scope with it.

Now it was skinnier than the bore into the solid front cylinder and the spacers. The original wasnt made this way so i felt okay taking some artistic license with the inside. Aluminum chimney flashing and e6000 in the front cylinder and gaff tape under the ring spacer!

I then of course drilled out the two for a vintage 1/8" pop rivet from the 80s

Still gotta think about the finish

Man, thanks for confirming that 3/4" scope with the oversized objective bell! I've had two of those in my watch list for months, now, so I'd remember to give one a shot at some point.

I'm glad that, thanks to you, now I know I won't be pissy whenever I do get a chance to get one of those suckers!

I do recall one of the auctions I saw looked a little hokey, though. It may be that the pics weren't consistent and when I sent the seller a question, I wasn't imbued with much confidence to order from them. Do you recall which seller was the bad one? Or which was the GOOD one?

Now, put those cores I bored for you to work!

Hah! Made my week reading this

Yes, so i was unable to find a legit one. The auction i used had buy it now options for multiple kinds of scopes 4x20, 3x7x28, i think there was even a 47... in a drop down menu like when you choose a size or something

They were dicks and the scope is lighter than a resin cast. I assume the original team used an air gun scope too for the 1 or 2 they made before the derlin copy so i felt comfortable as its pretty darned close. If we find a more hefty one ill just take out that rivet again and do the same thing.
Ive noticed some used scopes are listed as the wrong magnification so i sometimes search for "mistakes" and come up with whole new fields of stuff

Haha, yep! I know the auction you're talking about, the one with the drop down menu, it's one of the ones in my watchlist! So, you're saying they were the ones that weren't great to deal with?

I know there are several others that sell the modern versions with the larger objective. Yeah, it's silly how lightweight they can be, when they're just a thin aluminum tube, with plastic eyepieces and sometimes plastic objectives, too!

I've got a more vintage one here with a larger objective, but I think it's slightly smaller than the one you got. It basically matches the objective on one of those random blasters in the Mandalorian's weapons locker. I'd have to look at it again, but it may even just be a sunshade rather than an actual objective lens housing.
