Has anyone purchased one of Todd's "Coyle's Downtowner Hat"? The price isn't bad at 99.00 and the description, but I was concerned about accuracy and quality. I used to own one of his jackets and I wasn't impressed. However, I also owned one of his shirts and it was great. So his stuff is hit and miss, hence my inquiring.

From what everyone has posted on Club Obi Wan, the Downtowner is stiff, like a cowboy hat. The Uptowner he offers is softer (and more expensive). I have no personal experience with either of them - I just know what I read on COW.

Same here, but if you REALLY love Indy and REALLY want a GOOD hat that is cost-effective, go with Todd's uptowner (many great reviews on COW) or the Akubra Fed.IV (another winner among Indy gearheads).
Of course, you could always hold out and save up for one of the higher-end fedora choices, but from what I have read - and seen pics of - the Uptowner is a good model and a great price!

They look fine, but they are stiff. Personally, I would opt for a Fed IV or a Christy's at that price point.

Fed IV is great, but head over to COW for more reviews. I like my Fed, but I love my Penman hat and it was definitely worth the cost and wait.

Cheers

I have the Christy's and the FED IV. Love them both. They are soft and pliable, with a lot of screen accuracy. I also own an Akubra Adventurer, which, although not as screen-accurate, has a lot of credibility as an Indy fedora.
