ok, modelers.

I've added into my list yet another re-build. This one is of an original issue AMT kit of the Motion Picture refit of the Enterprise. Unlike my other two TOS kits, this one I will be repairing and adding in an enhanced lighting system. When done, I will be using this to create some HDR shots using my DSLR and build up some great looking PC wallpaper.

Here are the pics I have posted so far. This one was in pretty pathetic shape, which is probably why I had it packed in a box for 20 years......

Yeah been there done it 2. Never had the foresite to take pictures of a resto, lookin forward to watching your work.

Always nice to see an old finished model get some fresh attention. You're lucky it is an early release, as the subsequent releases have increased panel detailing. These additions do not follow the correct aztecing pattern and make it a huge pain to do so correctly.

Since you have a "smoothie" you pretty much have to aztec it correctly now.:thumbsup

Sorry I can't help with the lights.

Oh, no. this isn't my model. THis one is for sale on that fuzznoggin site. It's a PL unit and has very nice lighting. I did drop them a note to see what it is going for. Curious to find out what they're asking.

I did some work this evening on my lighting system wired in high bright white LED 's into the saucer perimeter and mounted the LED flashlight modules in the bridge and sensor domes. Ran a test and the windows are good and bright.

Aztec'ing will be 'fun', to say the least.

Let us know what sort of figures are being talked about, I too was going to fire off an email but you've already been there:lol

I've worked on my saucer lighting system today and have tested out all the components. So far, works nice and lights up every window in the saucer section, including the dozen extra ones I drilled out to enhance the overall look. I used colored plastic to color several of the windows in various shades.

Two systems are in here - one lights only the bridge dome and lower sensor assembly, and the second handles the perimeter saucer window. Nice and bright and no light leaks - at least in this stage. The inner foil lining creates great reflections, too.

I'll post pics this evening. Next step is the system for the secondary hull. Havent decided if I'll do any nacelle lighting yet.

Well, the lighting harness is assembled and working nice. Have both nacelle and struts affixed to the secondary hull. Perfectly aligned. It also showed how poorly I had re-attached the saucer - it was more crooked than before. I popped it off, ground down both connection pieces and re-attached properly aligned.

She's drying now and will snap pics in the AM.

Hey all,

Not too many updates - have the lighting system built and installed - saucer and secondary hull. She's well light sealed and in the dark, the windows are nice and bright. I put in some colored acetate pieces inside to give some windows a different color, which breaks up the blue/white of the LED's. It's a nice effect. A far cry from the junky looking build it was before.

I have some detail painting to do which I'll get to when the weather breaks and humidity goes down.

Question: Does anyone know the shade of blue used on the TMP enterprise for the bridge deck? looks like a light metallic shade, but i really like the look and want to duplicate it.

Had to do a quick re-working of the saucer lights. I couldn'tget the top piece to fit nicely on the lower saucer. The wiring I used was a little to heavy in gauge. So, wanting to use what I had, I pulled it all out, and re-wired the LED's to the perimeter windows using thin foil strips, which have plenty of clearance. Now the two pieces have a nice clean fit, no clamping needed to glue.

I also picked up my first three cans of Pearl paint finish. Great stuf this is! I have clear, a emerald green tint, and a light pink tint. I tried all three on a sample piece of a broken up TOS-E I have and am partial to the green tint. Makes a nice finish.

Has anyone used a Pearl finish paint? Any thoughts?
