Found a video on YouTube of a guy named Carl Piermarini who made a whole time machine replica. For the handle, he used a swarovski crystal for the top and had the rest of the handle machined in brass. Here's a link right to the part where he talks about it:

Just a crystal drawer knob, a a desk leg from Home Depot, the aluminum tip I made on my drill press, a couple of flat washers, and Voila!!!
