Time Bandits Map Tutorial

I'll see if I can dig 'em up.
micdavis had it posted on the web somewhere...Mike?

I asked Mike last year if he still had the tutorial and he said he couldn't find it IIRC, but he did give me some helpful tips. He used light sandpaper and ashes from a bar-b-que ground in. Extra weathering on the creases. Based on that info alone mine turned out fantastic.

I think tea or coffee works. I plan on going further one of these days with some acrylic paint and flatten the whole thing with some dull overcoat.

I'm more interested in the fold template -- I'd like to get mine folded in as close to the configuration of the most-common movie version as possible.

For weathering, I have a friend with a shed with a dry dirt floor. I plan to bury it for a short while and see how it goes.

I use coffee and a rag or sea sponge and build up color slowly. Also, a dremel works great to rough up the edges. On my first weathered map I sanded the surface as recommended in the tutorial, but I was disappointed at losing so many subtle details, so I bypass that step now. To each his own. Here's one of mine.

^ That's why I kept one weathered and one pristine. ;)

I found the pics and restored them to the thread:

I never was able to upgrade my maps past kapow v2, much less the more recent offerings by others. I shot myself in the foot with the tutorial: I used to offer weathering services (I got my v1 and v2 maps in trade for weathering others), but then folks just followed the instructions. :lol

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar! Many, many thanks!

As far as sanding goes, I plan to sand very, very lightly on only the edges, and then let age do the rest.

Thanks for doing that. The kapow V2 was that last version we did. So you have the most complete one, I was invloved with.

I somehow lost my copy of the tutorial and all those pics, glad you could restore them.

Jay did all the weathering on my maps. Fantastic job. Still the best I've seen.

It was a fun job!

kapow later did a v3 with someone else, and now of course there's been one or two new makers.

Well, the Kapow V1 was what initially inspired me to finally make my own, so thanks to all who helped make his project happen.

Thanks for restoring those images. This time I'm saving the whole page in case the images get moved again.

Wow!! Thanks I ask for this in April of 2007!!

I bought my map from Jon last March and then they "Upgraded" the board & I was screwed with that tutorial...the main reason I bought the map...

I can now start working on this project again....I'll have to "Dust Off" the map...oh wait I probably want to leave the Dust ON!!!

Yeah, dust is good in this case. Wow, April 07, you were one of the very first. Thanks.

Ya, and as I have stated before I wish I had waited cause your new version is better than the one I bought....The Color is more accurate IMO. Still a great piece!!

Is there someone who shares a digital version, as I have the chance to print on canvas at work :love
