Tie Pilot pill box greeblie - Found?

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been suggested by anyone else but I'm pretty certain I've found the pill box greeblie on the TIE pilot helmet. I was in the library in work and I stumbled across a Rubber stamp ink pad.

The item I found isn't completely identical but it's so close in size I think it's almost definitely what was used;

Well it certainly seems close Anson.

In case anyone's concerned about the embossed writing, remember that the top is atually the part glued to the helmet - so cant be seen when its in place. Despite handling a fair few of these Ive never found one loose enough to see whats on that side.

Do you have the dimensions of that box - that'll clinch it.

This particular box looks to be a little larger than the one on the TIE but I'm presuming there are differing sizes. It would be the ink pad for a date stamp specifically.

This was a date stamp on ebay so I can't tell you the exact size - this ink pad comes from an ''Office Zone'' date stamp although I've seen a few on ebay that appear to be the same so I think it's a generic moulding.

The ink pad I saw in work was actually a little smaller than the TIE box so it's very possible there's 54mm X 37mm box out there...

That has to be the right style of box just the Ebay ones are a bit bigger.

These are for date stamps in the format - 01 NOV 2010 - I am presuming there will be different styles i.e. 01 11 10 so would be smaller

Good thing is as well there are thousands of these and they cost a pound or two so if we find the correct ones I wouldn't expect a big price hike

very cool! I know a lot of people who have been working on TIE pilots have been struggling with that piece for years! Lets hope that is the one or at least leads to finding the exact match!

I suggested ink pads awhile back, but was informed ink pads don't have hinged lids. Don't know if that's true or not.

I remember that Firespray, far as I recall we didn't find any ink pads with this specific hinge. At that time I spent a bit of time searching different kinds of ink pads on my own but never came across anything as close as this new lead.

So 54mm x 37mm, is that the size of the box that was used on the original TIE Helmets?

Actually, I meant spring loaded lids rather than hinged lids. :confused
