How many casts did you get out of it before gave out?
Any particular reason you only got 10 out of it, seems a very low I would have thought?
Had some mold issues....the silicon on the front half wasn't as thick as it should have been, some of the plasti paste on the front never cured....overall, not a very good mold, but my second version will hopefully be MUCH better.
I'm glad to see that you're happy with them and that they fitNOW we are getting somewhere!
I received a box from shapeways today with this little piece of 3D goodness inside. Thanks to my friend Jacob for modeling and uploading this piece, it is perfect!
The printing process is done in layers, creating this rough, gritty texture. Since this piece will be molded to produce copies, it has to be as smooth and blemish free as possible. Nothing some sanding and primer can't fix.
Oh, and it fits like a glove.
Well, not a lot left to do now. I'd like to have this helmet molded by the end of June, and I would also like to do a small run of RAM era casts. If you are interested, watch this thread!
More to come.

I continue to refine the dome, which has taken longer than necessary. I kept sanding down too far and hitting paper, so I dremeled off some of the high points from the pep model off the dome.

I'm confused. Anytime I see someone doing a pep build, they always get it so damn smooth. And grey too. Mine never look like these no matter how much sanding and filling. RPFers HOW YOU DO DIS?

First off, thin passes with the Bondo. No need to slather on tons of the stuff if all you will be doing Is sanding it off. I believe the done on my Thinas helmet took 7 thin passes of filling and sanding to complete.
The grey you mentioned is just rattle can primer. Having a piece In a uniform colour makes it easier to see the imperfections.
this build is great, learned a lot from it. question though about the primer/sculpt? the red-brown paint that you put on the helmet, i see in many other builds... is it just a red-brown colored primer or is it actually like a thick spray of some substance?
it's a primer.
Rustoleum makes the one I use (filler primer) and Krylon also makes one.
