thinking of making the other SR crystals... insane?

Finally got a day off to just sit back and chill (holiday was driving me insane), and I thought about displays and other stuff i have around the house.

I thought about the other SR crystals, and how a pretty neat display would be all the clears laid out on black felt like in the movies.

Then I thought "thats... a lot of crystals". Just really looking for opinions on this. There is enough reference to get fairly accurate crystals, but is this just something over-the-top and not worth going insane over, or would it end up being a pretty interesting display? I have a new company I am talking with about getting some clear projects done (in crystal) for cheaper, and want to give them a "cut your teeth" project to start with...

Kinda wondering if this is my white whale :lol

Just a random idea floating through the ol noggin. Figured I would see what anyone else's opinion would be.

Actually, I think there would be enough interest for another run of both the original SR crystals as well as the Donner style for the folks who missed out, or who just want a couple more after seeing how well they turned out.

The other SR crystals would be cool as well. I recommend offering them in various colors again, though, as I really think that's what led to the larger numbers of orders we saw in the last run.

I'm sure there's some deep pocket collectors on here who'd chase with you round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perditionÂ’s flames before they stop buying SR crystals, but me? I like to eat

Hopefully you'll move onto the Donner film green & clear crystals next before revisiting SR crystals. I'll find the cash to get the Donner ones, and hopefully I'll have some breathing room to save up for the next SR run.

actually, this wasnt for a interest or for sale thread :lol

this was just for me to have displayed on the wall.

i do plan to hit the donner crystal and the "ultimate krypton" crystal (sounds way cooler if you do that old horrible DBZ japanese accent on there though.. "ULTIMITOO KRYTONAH" as my cousin puts it, and yes we were wasted at the time :lol) before the SR again. actually it will probably be all around the same time since the more we throw at a company the more the discount is for the various crap we have made. probably sometime in jan/feb.

for the other SR crystals, i was thinking one of those black wall shelf setups, like the really big ledge ones, but with the crystals on black velvet like we saw in the movie.

I definitely think this would be cool. Superman Returns stirred with in me a love of Superman I forgot I had, and has gotten me looking for props myself. I think this would make one really cool shadow box/display for a wall.

I thought since the crystals were cut by hand, no two are cut exactly alike.....
might make it hard to produce.

If a run of these would help lower the price from the manufacturer on the "donner crystal and the "ultimate krypton" crystal"(both of which I am very eagerly anticipating) Im all for it.

And yes, a matted diplay with black velvette would look gorgeous.

(side question....is the donner crystal you mentioned still the green one? Or is it the clear sucker that Jor-el holds up when he says "He will never be alone..." Either way, Im nuts for some donner crystal goodness.)

NS - it wouldn't be too hard to produce. the hard part would be getting the facets close to movie accurate considering we only see the other crystals in a few scenes, and even then its momentary glimpses. but, like i said, not looking for a run of these, just adding more and more clear stuff to a collection :lol

nick - again, I'm not looking to make a run of these, but if there is someone interested when I am getting everything together, I am pretty sure I can lob an extra one or two on the order. I am trying to decide mainly on how/where to display them first, and if I can find a spot, I may add em later on. everything is still pretty much in the air right now.

the ultimate donner is a green one. not the clear giant one brando waves around

I guess my dream prop after all this would be the ship for kal-el, in life size, with real crystals :lol... right after I hit powerball I will get to work on that

the SR crystal i received exceeded my expectations. So you know i'd like to be in on anything you make.
