There are many Obi-Wan ANH's, but this one's mine.

Finally got a couple "holy grail" parts!
A Roman's grenade and pommel, which I am extremely excited about picking up.

I thought about picking up the windvane and emitter from the same guy, but my wallet didn't let me, plus, I thought I could machine those parts myself, or reasonable imitations.

I haven't decided if I want to paint the windvane, or even drill and file it out to make the fanblades... I kind of like it solid.
The interconnector piece I machined out of a Forox animation camera film sprocket, it ended up being "really" close. It's slightly smaller than the real part, but till I get some new metal to throw in the lathe, this will work.

Drilling the 16 holes in the emitter ring was the hardest part to get right, and I'll probably need to re do it, but this will work for now.

The one part I still really need is a booster gear for between the pommel and the clamp. The search continues... if ANYONE knows where I can find a booster, or have tips on machining it, I do have a 9x20 lathe, but I am not sure how I'd machine the fins.

Thanks for looking!

For when you re-do the emitter here's a couple dimensions that might help. Flange diameter: 2.20", large tube diameter 1.55". For the 16 holes you can make a wooden indexing jig for next time around.

For the booster, if you can set up to do milling in your lathe and figure out some way to index things you might conceivably do the job with a custom fly cutter.

Or keep watch for Russ and Howards' aluminum booster run which will follow close on the current emitter run. :)

Hey, Thanks Serafino! Good idea on the indexing jig, I had to use a clamp and eyeball it on that one.

Thanks for the dimensions, I think I'll either scrounge around in my scrap box to find a piece that big, or break down and order some metal online.

And yes, I would absolutely love to get in on a booster run. I'll keep checking the junkyard. Are there any in progress pics around of that part?

I saw that auction. Having a whole Obi ANH and parting it out for sale was bad enough, but selling the neck/windvane and the frag body separately really chapped my britches! Glad to see you could get around it.

One thing though... It looks like the neck by the frag body is thinner than the brass bit between the windvane and emitter. Shouldn't they be the same diameter?

Anyway, good job so far.

The Obi-Wan ANH saber hilt has always been my favorite. That said, I gotta tell ya' I really like yours with the solid windvane section and the chrome "stand-in" booster. Reminiscent of Obi-Wan's, yet unique enough for you to call it your own.

Tan--what you say about the stem is true about the 'Chronicles' saber, but not true of the saber seen hanging on Obi's belt in this 'Tunisia' photo.

Granted it's far from accurate, but my hardware attempts at building the Obi have been with 1/2" PVC pipe (admittedly, more than a bit oversized). When I finally got a correctly scaled resin grenade, the neck seemed almost whimpy by comparison. Considering the disparity between the proportions of the neck, plus the visual mass of the emitter, it just LOOKS like the saber might break at the end of the frag body.

Accurate or not, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, an evenly proportioned neck looks "better" to me. But that's just what I think.
