the worse betrayal i have had to date!

iI have been working like crazy to collect the original Highlander molds, and to date I own the H2 mold I bought from David stokes, the H1 mentor I traded from Tom in Germany, and an H3 albion I repaired and restored.

I found a local guy who offered me practical katana swords to use 5 at a time and pay after I sold them. I then found a guy south of texas, a member here, MIKETRIBAL, who had experiance molding and making the handles with a kevlar core. We went into a business agreement, I supply the molds and start up money, he does the molding, make new masters from the originals, and I put the originals back in the closet.

Our goal was the simple idea of offering the best swords, from actual molds, with real steel and parts for no more than 500 each at a base, then move up in price with better blades. The first few months we great, no issues, we made and sold several, he got all the profits cause i wanted to make our own stuff, brass fittings we make ourself, and then in the end make our own blades, I gave this guy the ultimate chance to use what he could have never gotten on his own, and to make what could have been great money.

For Tom in germany he was to get a reconditioned H3, and i had several deals in the making before him to secure all these things. after a few months, me supplying blades, parts and the molds, I sent to mike the original molds that I own so he could make new masters and send them back, as was the deal!

After a while I quit hearing from him, I asked about the status of blades I had traded for, he threw out some crap about family and such, I said its cool, lets get these out and well get cracking later....I also drove 200 miles to meet him and another memeber here, and dropped of handles and 3 complete practical katanas to finish the deals i made prior to working with him. Well after about a month of nothing and me trying to call and text, I told him he needed to call me.

He did and then informed me that he went behind my back on emails and contacted tom and a few other of my clients and told them i was out of the business, and he will be finishing the trades with them, so he could keep the molds and the rights to them. I told him that was crap and i didnt know what more he needed, I gave him everything he needed already. From what I can tell he got a taste of the pontential money and said screw Kyle.

After emailing back my clients, Tom informed him that the original deal still stood with me and he was to send back the molds, I even went as far as telling him to keep the spare mold and sell what ever he wants, i want whats mine. If course I havnt heard back from him...

I'm telling you this not as a ***** session, and not to get your sympathy nor for you not deal with mike, but to understand that people are a terrible terrible breed! after i offered everything I had, I brought him into a situatioln he would have NEVER been brought into, he still lacked the intestinal fortitude, the basic honor to acknowldge the situation he had, and to man up and say he wanted out, i would have still given him the oppertunity to make and sell them... so with that i want you all to try and grasp the reality that even if you think you can trust someone they have the possibilty to take from you, and make you feel like trust is a lost quality and property...

Fixed to make it readable.

I feel your pain man, a similar but not nearly so terrible situation happened to me a few months ago. Sometimes it just feels like you can't trust anybody.

i do wanna add that i did make second molds of EACH handle before i shipped them, i also have a huge stack of H1, H2 and H3 tsuba's i had paid to have made by a local laser cutter, im not out of the game, just wanted it known of the betrayal!

sorry, to hear about this irish. I'm a big highlander fan so i really feel for you. I wouldnt have let those molds out of my sight. Somebody would have had to pull them from my cold dead hands.

That is seriously messed up. This type of stuff seems to happen alot in the prop community. It's pretty sad, really.

dude, time to call a lawyer. that's crap. Sorry this happened to you.

I second that :angry! Every once in a while, I like to get out my optimistic hat and pretend that humans are inherently good :rolleyes. Whoops! That's a joke....sometimes I wonder if you can trust anyone. Sorry this had to happen to you buddy.

You guys are not getting the whole story. There is another side to this and its very different.

I have been in the loop with every communication between all parties involved. I have read numerous emails the last few days and I just have to say a few things.

1. He did not drive 200 miles to meet me and his partner. He left San Antonio and we left Houston both a 9am and met up at 11 in Columbus, Texas. Last time I checked, not 200 miles.

2. The H2 mould was not bought by Daryl. It was bought by another member of another board. He then had it sent to Daryl who promised he would make some swords for him. He was making deals he couldn't make good on. After months of not knowing whats going to whom his partner and I decided to contact the man in question to try to clarify some details. After a very long email detailing how angry he was and how he felt he had been taken advantage of, we said that we would honor his deal and make his swords for him. We did inform him that we are doing this for no fee and that we feel he has paid enough. We have written permission by the owner of the mould to keep it in trade for the swords we made. 2 weeks after we made this deal we had pictures to show and swords to ship.

Long story short, he paid Daryl close to 2K and nothing to show for it. We took care of him.

3. The trade with Tom has since been rectified. And we will be returning that mould(the mentor) shortly to Daryl. We will also be sending a sword out to Tom to make sure he gets what he was promised.

4. I have seen Daryl's work in person and I am not impressed. His construction methods are questionable at best. He actually sent a sword to his partner to be fixed so it could be sold. Not sure who bought it(possibly a member here) but in its condition it arrived in was not acceptable to our level of standards. While these swords are based off the Highlander movie katanas we feel that we should still make an effort to make them functional swords. Our construction methods make our swords comparable to the point gallery Musashi by Sal D'Aquila.

5. We were open and honest in our communications with Daryl but that honesty was not returned. He has very cryptic in his communications with us and we felt out of the loop.

I want it to be known that I personally was supportive of Daryl in the beginning. I urged his partner to be patient and see how things would unfold over time. More and more we saw that we were on separate pages on what directions we wanted to go. Our reasons for splitting are professional and ethical. Having gone separate ways now I hope that we both are able to resolve this. I do regret that this came to the public forum for debate.

again, hitogiri had NOTHING to do with this, he injected where he thought he could influence.. and the client who paid almost 2k, is having a blade made for a handle and the blade wont even arrive till december, the other 2 swords were supplied to miketribal to help finish so we could have them for our own.

the H2 was bought by the client and traded for the mentor handle, i supplied 3 blades and the molds, yes i sent miketribal the molds, and he knew the story behind it, he knew that we needed to make the swords to keep the molds. i never said i was perfect at making them, but to go behind the back of the person who brought u into this is nothing short of BAD FORM!

and of course you could make and finish the swords after talking to them, of course you could because you had all the swords and molds, and waited long enough for the other clients to get upset over time, and emailing them behind my back! i brought this forward because like anyone who walks on the back of someone who would try and help, that person needs to be watched.

and let me also say that i told miketribal to make and keep his own masters to do with as he pleased, i also said if it came down to us not working together, he could keep and sell his swords as he sees fit! all this is is a man influenced by another for greed and to cut out a man who did everything he could to help him build a business. thats the plain of it...

but like in my first post, this isnt a bash session, i dont want you not to buy from miketribal or hitogiri, but i WAS betrayed and what are rhe purpose of these posts if not meant to pass on the information and how we feel about it! Miketribal does excellent work, the handles are beautiful and the core is strong, he has perfect tsubas (cause i paid to have the files made and freely gave them to him) and the price is of course right.

What?! If I got screwed over, legitimately, I wouldn't want anyone to buy from those who screwed me over. That's just human nature. And I certainly wouldn't have parted with anything as precious as original handle molds for Highlander katanas. I don't know, but I don't think the whole story is coming from either side here.

You don't put a post up like this just to vent, he can say he doesn't care if you buy from us but it was obviously an attempt to bias the rpf community against us. And I think that we all know it.

I will defend Daryl here a bit, being an owner of his Cap Shields - those items are top notch. I have them hung in my office and everyone that comes in wants to take them down and hold them. I've actually had a couple of people ask if they were made for the new movie.

Yep, it runs rampid. I've been betrayed so many times by people... I am numb to it now and even expect it, sorry to say. I try to do as much as I can myself, and trust only those I have to. Sorry for your burn.
