The comics are much better than the TV series, and obviously the plots and characters are much more developed due to the the comics long running nature.
But I do think the TV series has captured some of the essence of the comic.

Being in the UK I am only part way through season 2 but am enjoying it, and already looking forward to season 3.
 
Ah great I may have to give the comics a go :D although I ain't read a comic in a while. What number would you recommend me going too? As I don't want to read any spoilers that will be in the tv series.

I'd recommend reading the first 2 volumes if you'd prefer not to read any spoilers before Season 3. There are currently 16 volumes.

Now the real question is are you going to be able to stop yourself from reading past volume 2. The comic is pretty addictive.
 
I was not able to stop myself, but I enjoy both the show and comic for different reasons. Books will also be better, but the show picked up and by all accounts this new season should be banging!
 
Our first glimpse of David Morrissey as the governor from The Walking Dead season 3. He looks nothing like the comics.

Ya he looks all wrong, no eye patch, hair, etc... Ill wait to see him in action before making a final judgement. But not really liking it

Actually, it's not the first volume. That's the first collection. The first volume, titled Days Gone Bye, looks like this:

But, you can get two volumes in one in the hardback books edition. I have this one (which covers Volume 1 and Volume 2: Miles Behind Us, the two volumes that have been adapted into Season 1 and Season 2 of the show), which I got Charles Adlard to autograph.

The collection, which comprises of more than two volumes (I can't remember the exact number), is the one you linked.
 
Yeah, there's several different versions. I think it really depends on what kind of collector you are. I've been reading since volume 1 and like to keep things the same so I collect individual trades. Some people grabbed the big compendium ones and prefer to collect those and then you have the mammoth ones.

I think the mammoth ones also come with extra artwork and whatnot
