The Walking Dead Season 3

something just hit me about the prior episode where Rick meets back up with Morgan,

I understand it as they were back in Rick's town, down the street from both his home and police station if I recall. But, its within a quick drive from the prison. So Rick was a cop in this town thats a short drive from a prison he didnt know was there?

The show probably didn't pay much attention to it. But I can tell you about how the comic dealt with it I guess?

Either way, Rick was a small town sheriff.. I think we can all agree, no matter how small the town, yes, he should have known of the prison being there.. but at the same time, stress, etc, I can also imagine him forgetting.

Woodbury in the comic (and the prison very nearby) is 52 miles from atlanta. King County is near enough that the government orders all those small counties to come to the big city, hence shane leaving rick and taking the family. So King County could be anywhere around the atlanta area I guess?

Either way, Woodbury/Prison would be at least an hour drive most likely because of the roads before the apoc. And after? I'm sure with all the cars and such, it took probably 2 or more.. so not a "short short" drive. I think Rick took a motorcycle in the comic when he went back to kill "walker" shane..

So yeah.. fuzzy that Rick wouldn't know about a prison so close..

but so goes the comic, that never thought it would have to deal with a lot of this continuity crap. :)

Looking at it though, I completely see your point though.

Don't make too much sense.. lol

Any by the way.. tonights episode was amazing, and that, coupled with "clear" have erased all of my fears of having Gimple as the new showrunner. As long as we have him, Greg Nicotero, Kirkman, and the cast, I'll be happy.

I cried, and had to hide it.. lol. Poor freaking Daryl..

Merle went out like a champ though. I never thought I'd be so proud of a racist.. but he had some big ones in the end, and I think he totally redeemed himself in the end. Awesome ep.

Wasn't Rick gone for over 24 hours in the comic book when he drove from the prison to just outside Atlanta and back? I seem to recall Carl or Lori asking when he'll be back and he said tomorrow. Been a while since I read that part though.

They also never really give us an idea of how far the prison actually is from kings county. I mean if could of been a 5 hour drive easy. In which case if its that far then it's not even surprising that he didn't know about the prison. 5 hours driving distance in any direction where I'm from and I'm sure I could discover one I'd never heard of.

I agree and mostly accept the show doesn't show an accurate passage of time. What appears to be a long outbound trip may look short on the return. It's an editing choice used to move the story along.

The question of whether a sheriff was aware of a prison within a certain driving distance of his town is a bit murkier.
One answer could be Rick was aware of the prison and chose to not consider it. Rick woke up from a coma in a hospital and found the town is empty with exception of the walking dead. He makes his way to Atlanta and the entire city is crawling with walkers. His most recent experience at a government facility, the CDC, didn't work out so well either. Rick was hoping to find security at the farm but look at how that worked out..
He may have have been aware of the prison but thought, "Why bother..". The group probably had a rough winter just surviving let alone deciding whether to travel to another "secure" location.

The promos and sneak peaks for the finale are interesting. As much as it would be cool to see a battle between the groups, we have been there and done that already this season. I would almost rather them be smart for once and set a trap for the Woodbury attackers, leave the prison, and either attack Woodbury or just move on. Moving on would be pretty anti-climactic so I don't see that happening. Also, Andrea is still at Woodbury and I'm assuming they gotta take her in again.

As long as it is not just a shootout, I'll be happy. If they do stay in the prison, some guerrilla style tactics would be cool. There are walkers still in the prison and using them to their advantage would be pretty sweet.

Interesting that Daryl is nowhere to be seen in any of the clips. Are we in for another last minute save? Hope not. Would like to see him in the thick of things.

Merle did what Rick couldnt do and also protected Rick in his leadership role. Merle was a great guy in tactics and warfare. Too bad he just didnt have a 2nd guy to back him up at the meeting.

Bonus : I'm winning the who's getting killed pool. Merle, tyresse group members white boy hick & kid. lol who's nexts?

That was anti-climatic and totally predictable. The set-up Merle's death right from the get go... it was obvious Merle was going to die during the first 10 minutes or so just.

Totally formulaic and just lame.

Norman Reedus did a pretty good job at the end there. While it wasn't quite Oscar worthy, the man showed he had a bit more in the acting skills department than I realized...

Why didn't you stop watching after 10 minutes then?

Next week will be very interesting if Daryl goes the way I think he will...As said in the movie Tombstone, "It's not revenge he's after. It's a reckoning"

Anybody notice the walker that was a direct nod to Romero's Dawn of the Dead zombie? He was wearing the red flannel shirt, and had the same "rot" as the one from DOTD.

Went back a page and saw some of you guys noticed as well. I was surprised they didn't mention it on The Talking Dead.

Loved the Airport Zombie cameo! I thought Greg Nicotero worked along side Tom Savini in the original DOTD since he does the effects for TWD but I guess I was mistaken. Still cool to see none the less. Can't wait until next week, that preview was sick when he hit the guard tower with the grenade launcher.

Greg worked on Day of the Dead w/ Savini. His first apprenticeship.
