The Toy story universe question

Come on, it's eyesight. They freeze when you look at them. They come alive when no one is looking directly at them.

They're relatives of the weeping angles!

Thats the rule they follow, not necessarily something they can not control, hence what happened in Sids' yard when they came to life before his eyes

That would mean that the old wooden toys found in tombs from Egypt is still alive.

I think toys can go into a kind of suspended animation if they want to, if they think they are going to be left alone for an extended period of time. Jesse did this as evidenced by the thick layer of dust on her when she was pulled out from under her original owners bed.

The object has the life given to it by the love and play of the owner. If the object is never played with, it has no life or love to give back. This is why your refridgerator has more personality than the end table.

Yeeee Haaaw, Cowboy!

In the toy story universe there is only one great big toy factory that makes all toys. The factory is built on a radioactive mound of nuclear waste that happens to be infested with radio active spiders and is on top of an indian burial ground. This factory has a long and rich history starting as a blacksmith shop that only made mechanical owls for Zues. The blacksmith shop was destroyed by a great flood, then years later the building was purchased by a man named Gepetto, who diisappeared inside a whale. It was then the shop expanded into more of a factory and began producing top hats for magicians, one of these hats was found by a group of children which lead to a lawsuit filed by the state of Road Island holding the factory responsible for artificial life. The factory was closed down once more and remained empty for years then was purchased by a defense contractor who built a line of robots only to have the another lawsuit brought against them when the fifth robot proclaimed himself to be "alive". Johnny 5 was taken apart (congress refused to classify him "true life" thus his disassembly was not looked upon as murder) while studying the metallic mystery - scientists made a remarkable discovery, there was something about the factory itself. It seemed to have the ability to give life to selected objects. Religious fanatics saw this as a sign of the apocalypse . The factor was once again shut down - until 1989. A construction crew digging not far away from the crumbling structure made yet another startling discovery -- the factory had been built on top of a radioactive mound which itself was on top of a leprechaun graveyard, which was put there to block the entrance of a cave that was believed to be a gateway to hell inhabited by free floating munchkin boogans.

So see, this mixture is why you have talking toys in toys story.

Jet,

PLEASE don't give SyFy any ideas.....

Stick to the code? Well, they're more or less "guidelines"

(sorry - wrong Disney flic)

Just to throw this out there, in TS2 Andy's mom is heard saying that Woody is "an old family toy".
Perhaps Woody belonged to Andy's father or mother?

Yes I assumed Andy's parents or even grandparents had Woody in a box and he was never opened until Andy came along.

I have wondered about Andy's dad too. Divorce? Deadbeat dad? Dead?

Yeah the toys seem to live in a universe with "rules" about affecting humans or revealing themselves. Whar are the consequences to breaking the rules? Not sure. Was it the blue fairy or something that gave them life? Doubt it...

Just a mystery intended to be a mystery I think.

This is fun. I was just talking to an old GI Joe and he said that you should see what toys do to people when they are sleeping.

Somehow they must learn this Rule from somewhere. Maybe it is told from toy to toy, but that would not explain why no new buzz doll has thought the kids are a new kind of alien life-form that they encounter on their galaxy travels.

The rules seem to change for characters with batteries or electronics. Why should any of the settings on Buzz affect his behavior when "alive"? The toys without batteries or factory settings still have their personalities.

What is it that makes them come alive?

Heavy mind altering drug usage? Delusions? :confused

When do they start to come alive?

As soon as that mind altering drug hits the bloodstream!!!

do this happen when they are built or are they alive in their original form such as plastic, wood, and such. Maybe something like Midichlorian explains it?

Wrong universe. Besides I don't think the toys would appreciate having a modded woman's razor be used to monitor your mitochondria!!!

Do this mean that everything that is considered a toy (for children/adults) is alive. That would mean that the old wooden toys found in tombs from Egypt is still alive.

Only when the spirit/soul of a crazed psychopath killer is transferred to the toy. And they have to be named Chucky!

How can they be able to keep this a secret at a global scale?

Many people globally don't do mind altering drugs?

Somewhere someone would have been able to accidentally be captured on a hidden camera that the toys would not have know about. (unless cameras is considered toys aswell)

The cameras cease to work during those moments or the mind altering drugs are not strong enough!

Considering how damage resistant the toys are in TS1 (sids room) They could easily conquer earth from the humans.

Yeah! Sid's a dead kid very soon!!!! Toys remember and they will have their revenge. Toy Story 4 - The Toys Revenge

Are they "born" good or what?

That would be a painful delivery!!!!!

Why are they hiding from humans anyway? they could do so much good for the humans if the come forward.

Spread the heavy usage of mind altering drugs!!!!

How was it that Bugs Bunny talked and could pull costumes out of thin air?

Wouldn't Tom from Tom and Jerry be dead after all the abuse he took?

Why haven't Bart and Lisa aged in 20 years?

How come Bender's body appears hollow and he can move his limbs when they've been detached?

The answers to these questions are the same as the answer to your question. It's a cartoon!

People that haven't killed their inner child don't ask these questions.

....and I've never had an anxiety attack.
