The Toy story universe question

The new Toy story movie made me think about their universe and how it works. But i don't get any wiser so it thought i see if anyone else thought about it.
The premise for toy story and its sequels is that all toys are alive but hides it from humans.

What is it that makes them come alive?
When do they start to come alive? do this happen when they are built or are they alive in their original form such as plastic, wood, and such. Maybe something like Midichlorian explains it?

Do this mean that everything that is considered a toy (for children/adults) is alive. That would mean that the old wooden toys found in tombs from Egypt is still alive.

How can they be able to keep this a secret at a global scale? Somewhere someone would have been able to accidentally be captured on a hidden camera that the toys would not have know about. (unless cameras is considered toys aswell)

Considering how damage resistant the toys are in TS1 (sids room) They could easily conquer earth from the humans. Are they "born" good or what?
Why are they hiding from humans anyway? they could do so much good for the humans if the come forward.

I also wonders if Adult "toys" also are "alive" in TS universe:love

It is of the gravest importance that someone find this man a more preoccupying job.

:)

:lol Well, actually i started thinking about this on my job. Then i though that i better ask the member of RPF for their view of things.:thumbsup

LOL. Contec, from the thread title alone this *had* to be something you were severely over-thinking. :p

I'm surprised the Porn film industry hasn't already looked into the possibility using one of those Real Dolls. :eek

"Sex Toy Story" 1, 2 & 3. "Morning Woody and his girlfriend "Babe LightReal" seek Satisfaction" :lol

In the toy story universe there is only one great big toy factory that makes all toys. The factory is built on a radioactive mound of nuclear waste that happens to be infested with radio active spiders and is on top of an indian burial ground. This factory has a long and rich history starting as a blacksmith shop that only made mechanical owls for Zues. The blacksmith shop was destroyed by a great flood, then years later the building was purchased by a man named Gepetto, who diisappeared inside a whale. It was then the shop expanded into more of a factory and began producing top hats for magicians, one of these hats was found by a group of children which lead to a lawsuit filed by the state of Road Island holding the factory responsible for artificial life. The factory was closed down once more and remained empty for years then was purchased by a defense contractor who built a line of robots only to have the another lawsuit brought against them when the fifth robot proclaimed himself to be "alive". Johnny 5 was taken apart (congress refused to classify him "true life" thus his disassembly was not looked upon as murder) while studying the metallic mystery - scientists made a remarkable discovery, there was something about the factory itself. It seemed to have the ability to give life to selected objects. Religious fanatics saw this as a sign of the apocalypse . The factor was once again shut down - until 1989. A construction crew digging not far away from the crumbling structure made yet another startling discovery -- the factory had been built on top of a radioactive mound which itself was on top of a leprechaun graveyard, which was put there to block the entrance of a cave that was believed to be a gateway to hell inhabited by free floating munchkin boogans.

So see, this mixture is why you have talking toys in toys story.

Some random thoughts I had...

- The many Buzz Lightyears in their packages in Toy Story 2 are factory fresh. Once awakened they all have a built in belief of their make-believe history... each one thinks he is the ONLY "Buzz Lightyear" until persuaded otherwise.

- Woody is actually a vintage toy meaning he's very old - as old as the Woody's Roundup tv show and toys featured in Toy Story 2 BUT Woody apparently has no knowledge of previous owners or at least has never hinted at them or referenced them which would seem odd. Andy seems to be his "first" owner so maybe he stayed in his originalo package until Andy obtained him. That would mean Woody was stuck in his package for probably 50 years which is also what lead to the Prospector becoming a mean old codger.

- Prospector Pete never had a child owner that played with him according to Toy Story 2. But the Prospector knows he's just a toy and has apparently been conscious and aware of his "toy" status for quite a long time. So apparently toys can become self-aware without a child's help.

- Toys can live even if they are in pieces so there's tons of zombie disembodied toy parts living in trash heaps and junkyards across the world.

We could go the Calvin and Hobbes route where they are only alive in our imaginations.

Anything other than that means they are possessed like the Zuni Fetish Warrior.

Just to throw a twist in your ideas/theories. Did you ever notice the toys in the movie that do not come alive, some of which are used as props by the ones that do? Is there a reason that they didn't come alive, are they never use/loved as for one of the theories i previously read?

The love of children.

I can't be something that simple..

I guess i have, but i found it was a interesting thinking :)

It almost like a matrix world where the toys "wake up" into reality

At least mr/ms potatohead could do it. Buzz could not move his disconnected arm after his failed flight in TS1

I don't have the movies so i can't rewatch them to see which toys you are referring to.

It's the same as Goofy being anthropomorphic but Pluto being just a dog and why R2D2 talks in beeps.

How can one toy be 'stronger' then another ? What makes them strong ?

How do the toys get out of breath ?

If their eyes are painted on their faces, how can they move their eyes ? They are making matter change at will.

I actually talked about this with my 7 y/o son the other day (we have deep conversations on such things). His theory was that it was only toys that had faces - but then I pointed out Hockey Puck, to then which he changed it to "toys with arms, legs or faces"... but then that wouldn't explain Etch.

I would suggest it was the harder plastic that they are made of that make some stronger.

Maybe if they don't have much "filling" inside their bodys, they go out of breath more easily.

Good point:thumbsup

Come on, it's eyesight. They freeze when you look at them. They come alive when no one is looking directly at them.

They're relatives of the weeping angles!
