The Silent Sea

I’m a little behind on starting to watch this, but I finished up the eight episodes of this show tonight.

The non-spoiler summary: While the Earth suffers from a world-wide water shortage, eleven individuals are sent on a secret mission to an abandoned moon base to recover an unidentified sample.

My thoughts: At first I didn’t care much for the spacesuits (the reason I started watching the show), but they grew on me. They looked a little plain at first, but as the series went on, I found the light grey kind of striking and I liked that the suits felt utilitarian (pockets, pouches, holders, etc.). The moonbase set was pretty nice too, although it wasn’t anything we haven’t seen before.

The plot of the show wasn’t really my thing. It skipped around from social commentary, to sci fi, to mystery, to space horror. It felt structured like an episode of Lost a lot of the times.

I do not understand why
Luna had to have physical and visible powers (leaping, gills, inner eyelids). They could literally have said she was gene-spliced and it wouldn’t have mattered. Her physical and visible powers didn’t really impact the story (other than her healing when given lunar water). Also, there wasn’t a narrative reason for her to be able to go outside without a spacesuit - other than to maybe visibly show she was free. They could have saved a bunch of money on vfx and cut the bad jumping scenes.

After the fun of watching The Wandering Earth and Space Sweepers, I was hoping for something great here. Instead, it just fell kind of flat.

Did anyone else watch this? Thoughts?

I watched this after seeing the wandering earth
I enjoyed it and have hopes for season 2
As I agree it was a touch flat
I also recommend that you watch it with English subtitles
As I am not a big fan of dubbing

Starting for all mankind next
