Is that a picture of the actual prop? If so, that doesn’t look like a metallic tape, simply some sort of regular tape that’s been painted. Looks like there is overspray on the grips as well.

It is a photo of a resin cast of the screen used prop. Here is another photo of the original hero hilt. You can see the reflectivity of the chrome tape on the bottom on either side of the Kobold:

The big, biennial Disney convention D23 is this weekend. During the opening of the Disney Legends ceremony yesterday there were several brief shots from Episode IX. And then during the movie studios presentation today they showed more footage and showed some behind the scenes pictures. The footage from today won't be released until Monday. The behind the scenes pictures haven't been released, but pieces of them can be seen in pictures of the cast on stage. Here's the bottom half and clamp of the Graflex:

Hard to know, looking at the group shots I cant tell for certain if its an exposed or a burnt section of the "laser sword". I'm leaning to exposed insides.
