Limited Run The Mandalorian Blaster, screen accurate (TWO LEFT before)

... You really need to read the design thread....
I can only really humbly bow in thank you at such an endorsement. Seriously.

I'm kinda on the fence. I would like the most accurate prop that I can find. What makes yours more accurate than the others being made?

Garrett

For my part I can add a couple things on how I approached it. I waited until the season was almost done before starting, to make sure I had enough reference. I probably cut out hundreds of images that I spent dozens of hours color-testing, sharpening, enhancing and manipulating in photo editors to iron out even the smallest detail. Even then, it wasn't really enough, but I got some tips from a couple of sources who... knew things (which I can't say more about). And every time something new would pop up, I'd redo the piece. (I lost count of how many times I redid the "slide"... and if you read the thread you can see how much I went back and forth on the recessed area for the cleaning rod bracket, until I could, with help, confirm it was accurate.)

I'm almost never the 1st person to have something finished, and since I don't have a CNC mill/lathe it's hard to beat the coolness factor of some drool-worthy metal builds of things we see, but I kinda get a kick out of trying to be the "best" (for whatever that's worth) in at least one area when I do a prop, so I try to focus on accuracy, because I'm fortunate enough to sometimes be able to spot details that others often don't (probably because I stare at the things until my eyes start watering, haha), and that I occasionally get generous help from folks in the industry.

Now I gotta go UV-bake some parts...! : )

Garrett Smith Just to add... apologies if I didn't specifically answer your question, but I don't want to do a breakdown to point out flaws or rag on other builds... a lot of talented folks out there have done VERY nice models with very limited reference. I don't know if there has been one done more recently than mine, which could account for some details being more accurate (plus that I've been tinkering with 3d since the 90s, not that I'm any sort of pro, lol). But if you want to compare for yourself and make a judgement, look closely at details- one at a time. Things like knurling... overall shapes of certain parts... closeups, angles and so on.

Very interested in a metal version
‘thanks
Metal version of this is most likely not happening for a while, if at all. I might have a test-casting done of the main shell and grip frame, but I don't know yet. I don't think it would end up being feasable in terms of cost, in the end.

Yeah, sorry guys.... posted in the wrong thread for some reason. (I have, like, 1000 tabs open and it's easy to mix 'em up.) If I were to include something like Beskar with the blaster kits I would actually be so deep in the red I'd be paying to give y'all things!

On another note... guess what's in here:

Hint: it ain't too exciting, haha. But it's one more link in the chain taken care of.

Also... I hope to have an update on those optional-extra metal pieces in the next few days!

If I order one can I get it with metal pieces as standard once you announce them

Well, here's the thing. The idea for the extras is that, those who want them, will to order them directly from Sh*peways, since I'm not actually making them. If you got them from me, they'd cost more, since I would have to pay shipping and taxes, then pass on those costs to you, adding paypal and currency conversion fees. It would also take several weeks more before you could get your kit. So having those optional parts not being included with the base kit is actually better all around!

I'm guessing the lego set of the mandalorian razorcrest as a reward for yourself for all the hard work you're doing

Garrett, thats a great question. You really need to read the design thread (The Mando Project (S.A. Blaster, Metal Beskar Ingot and I guess maybe the whole darn suit...!) ) he did before he opened this up to a run. And watch and see how he uses multiple techniques to really nail down dimensions, angles, and scales of details. Not just that, but the thread was open to debate and a lot of people jumped in with imagery, practical weapon advice, and 3D expertise.

And being the first guy to pull the trigger on one let me tell you, I’m a completely anal ******* when it comes to SW blasters/weapon props. Being a former ILMer for 10 years, it’s kinda in my blood.

I was on the fence with about four different Etsy builders, but after starting to follow the research and build thread, I was hooked on what was being done.

Read through the thread. You will not be disappointed. I sure as hell wasn’t.

Can you please tell me where you found that helmet stand? I have been looking for that one!

Went out yesterday and got some more brass for the smaller metal parts that are included with the kit, to accomodate a few more if those on the fence decide to get down! Otherwise it's been a weekend of adding pattern to Beskar and some sorting of blaster parts!

OK, looks like I can take on three more but then I'll probably have to pause future kits/runs for a bit. Going to be breaking in a new machine and moving stuff around so I don't know how much printing I'll be able to do for a while. Send PM if you want one!

Still sorting/packing parts, but be prepared for an update on those optional metal extras in the next few days!
