The Making of Superman 3

You are welcome -

Kinda neat in part 3 of 5 of the documentary - you find out the little boy who puts his money in the picture machine while Superman is changing during the title sequence of part 3 is the SAME kid who played baby Superman in part 1. He's a cute kid too - I like the interview he gives

I've definitely got a soft spot for Superman III. I was very young, young enough that I don't remember the first three films being released (the first came out the year I was born) and SM3 had some really striking scenes and imagery which left an impression. The woman being wrapped in circuitry and controlled by the machine gave me nightmares, as did Clark being crushed in the car compactor. The entirety of the good/evil Superman fight was incredible to me, and I cheered (inside, at least!) every time Clark ripped his shirt open to reveal the brightly colored "S" again!

Also, I've always envied the luxury afforded to that Lex knockoff: "I've never worn the same pair of socks twice." I think of that every time I put on a new pair of socks, and have for as long as I can remember. :)

The boy from the photo booth is Aaron Smolinski..and yes that was him. I had the great pleasure of visiting his parents home (the mom by the photo booth was his real mom and his father was one of the guys by the car filling with water). That interview he gives was on the ramp to the Highwood Museum in High River which recently suffered a fire, but will be restored. The shops Gus and Lana Lang walk by are right across the street from that location..as is the "town square" which was just a parking lot next to a back alley.

I live in High River which was Smallville for Superman III and see Lana Lang's house almost every day. It's up for rent now but the renter didn't reply to my request for an inside tour.

The only location I haven't found or visited is the chemical plant. The bridge sequence was filmed at the bridge just south of Longview, Alberta, and the picnic scene was filmed near Blackie, Alberta. They put in the culvert under the road for Superman to change back to Clark in. It is still there.

The bridge you see in Calgary at 10:33 in the first video was featured in Exit Wounds with Steven Segal (yuk).

Christopher Reeve will always be the Superman in my book. They kept toe the character you would expect if a bit lighthearted at times. As well off film how he dealt with his injury afterward always left me feeling he was truly a superman.

I thought Smallville did a decent job although it lacked the strength development of the Superman character for quick short stories and the freak of the week at times. They really missed on the potential to show what would drive the building of Superman's strengths in character. They touched on it but oh could they have really done some great background deep stories. They never really utilized Jonathan and Martha's Kents influence.

The compromises in character killed Brandon Routh's film version. Otherwise, I liked the look of the character and the action scenes. But the story line stunk.

hey thanks for posting this link today! It made my work day go by much faster and I enjoyed watching the real Superman flying and behind the scenes. had a lot of fun watching this!
