Aha! So how do the nuts help this? I can't picture in my mind what's going on.That's exactly the problem.
Exactly this /\ Since the tip of the riveting tool can't reach the face of the rivet, the nuts take up that space and provide the same effect.Or is it fine as long as you keep downward pressure as you're "riveting"?

I've been meaning to swap screws for rivets on a 2.0 I plan to sell, and hadn't got around to it, yet.
Now I won't be all confused when I actually go to do it!
