The Iron Patriot Costume - build progress

*UPDATE*

I got a little bit more done, and am now OFFICIALLY out of welding wire, so Production has haulted.

I also ran into a dilemma over the past 2 days. A design flaw that will stop the FLIGHT CAPABILITIES for the boots. Luckily I listened to you guys that said
"Just focus on building the suit, without the flight, and actuators, and everything...". When I started doing that, and idea instantly came to me that saved the project.

I had run out of room to run the air & fuel lines for the rockets, but I thought of a slight design-change-addition, that will fix that problem. so... (BIG PHEEEW, THAT WAS CLOSE!)

(I still have to add 6 more bars, and the swivel-plates that connect to the Bearings)

I really wanted the boot to turn out more like TONY's Mark 3:

... But I totally spaced it when I was designing the thing.... But hey, This is just my Mark 1 prototype. I can remember and fix all those problems for my Mark 2.

Here's how the boot works:

You wouldn't want to use "rockets" anyway. you would want to use thrusters with adjustable vector nozzles, for hovering, sustained forward flight (push), or "afterburner" acceleration.

It's a difference in semantics, but in this context, a thruster is going to be a variably controllable source of thrust with directional output. It's kind of an "all rockets are thrusters, but not all thrusters are rockets" sort of thing.

You do know rockets and jets are two completely different techniques.
With rockets not having the best controll (on/off...and limited burntime) jets are the way to go. Definately curious where you will house the 12 miniature turbine engines (each one measuring about 60cm in diameter) in the 2 boots.

As thats roughly what you will need to fly..

Mods - delete this post if you want to - but this isn't meant to be trolling and it isn't a joke. I'm seriously concerned that this kid is danger of burning or blowing his feet off if not injuring himself more seriously than that. If he does injure himself, I'd feel guilty for not speaking up now.

I honestly hoped he was joking with the flight aspect of this project before, but he's evidently SERIOUS about strapping real rockets to his feet - something he's convincingly demonstrated he knows absolutely nothing about.

Imagine this local news story: "Coming up at 11, we'll tell you about the Boy who blew his feet off trying to build a "real" Iron Man suit, and about the online forum where he posted his plans & progress pictures that did nothing to discourage him."

This thread has gone from amusing to disturbing to downright scary. I understand wanting to moderate unnecessary negative comments - but those concerns shouldn't outweigh the more important concern for a member's safety.

youve given me no answers as of yet?

whats your idea for a power plant? whats powering all this>?

what fuel are you using?

how heavy is the suit going to be when done? plus your weight?
that equals what you need to lift..id like to know what is this total weight going to be? or a guestimate

what are your ideas for propulsion?
rockets?.... jets?....figuring out this before you build everything else is crucial
will you be able to fit this unit in your feet?

what ammount of flight time exactly are you looking for?
seconds? a minuite? more?

how are you going to deal with stabalization during flight?
are you going to make a wing backpack? or design the arms to be wings? or something else?

Hey Iron Patriot, found this one that I thought you might like. YouTube - Prototype Replusor arm Homemade Progress...
Hope this helps in someway, maybe it will give you a few more ideas....
oh , almost forgot about this one.... wasn't sure what way you were going? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2X9lvZtaWQ Hope this one helps to.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you like my suit....... look to the left.... sorry no pics yet under construction..... I am working on the shield right now, well that and working out the bugs.... that and I might do the old school shield.... don't know yet....

Valid and should be considered

You can't tell someone who puts on a Batman costume to not jump off a building.
Whether you delete this thread or not, he's going to do whatever he does.
Perhaps a disclaimer is in order.

@ Mez7:

- Lets see...

Power Plant - Standard Batteries, since I dont have a Nuclear Arc Reactor Device...

Fuel - Standard Unleaded Gasoline, Mabey some alcohol if I can ferment it without getting arrested.

Weight of suit + Me - 250lbs (guess)

Propulsion - Modified Custom turbine encased inside the backpack, combustion chambers in the boots.

Flight Time - Hopefully 1/2 hour or more at idle speed.

Flight Stabilizers - Mabey some control surfaces just like Tony's suit, mabey nothing.

( I'll cross these bridges when I get to them, that's why I havent answered these questions yet )

Why nobody think that the troll is this guy? He's writing about a lot of bull**** and impossible things just to see our comments. If mods don't want to close this 3d, just let it go, don't take care about him.

how many batteries will be required for the servos and other mechanics of the suit?

how much fuel will it take to run 1/2 hour of flight time?
ie: how much fuel does this custom turbine engine burn?

how much do you weigh? is the backpack and engine include in the figure you provided?

how are you controling the control surfaces?

you really need to figure these things out first.....not as you come accross them.....thats how projects fail.

You guys are way too serious. This is a prop website. Let'm build in peace. I am very interested to see how this progresses. Its the journey, not the destination.

if he wants to build in peace he should not post in a public forum....

by posting his project, and his claims of what he wants to do, we are very much allowed to ask valid questions, ie: how he is going to go about his build...which is what the thread is about in the first place

thats how these things work.
