The I HATE PAWN stars thread!

Now that I think about it didn't he go 15500? I watched so many episodes last night they all kinda blend together. :)

No, I think that was her last asking price... first she tried 17K, to which Rick said "15k" then 16k, to which Rick said "15k" and then sheepishly asked for 15.5k.

I'm pretty sure that's how it went down, but not 100% certain.

Still amazed at the gall. First time I saw something like that on the show.

Going back to something mentioned earlier about the "set-ups" as far as scripted material, I've speculated on that for a while... which things were scripted and what wasn't.

I think the hot air balloon purchase could have been, the Who signed Woodstock contract too. I can't believe they wouldn't have just done a quick google search to see that those were put in records back in the day.

We also wondered how much of the "knowledge" they're spewing out in between segments is actual knowledge or fed to them.

Just getting into video editing myself, I find it interesting to dissect a show and try to determine what is organic and what is editing.

I call shenanigans!

The episode when Big Hoss bought a used, really cheap, piece of crap Tattoo kit that can be ordered from the back of a magazine for waaay too much money.

He then bartered with the Tattooer....a Tattoo for the machines.

Nope, not for that Chinese garbage.

When I worked in Vegas I would have charged around $350.00 - $400.00 for that piece, those machines are the type we pay $20.00 for the pair just to get them off the street and out of the hands of scratchers.

Then back at the shop they were bitching that Big Hoss was MIA all day, he comes in and they ask him where he's been and he claims he was getting Tattooed, yet the piece was already about 2+ weeks into the healing process.

So yea, it's scripted and heavily edited, but, it's on TV so of course it's FAKE, I thought everyone knew that.

Of course I knew that, I was just mentioning it was interesting trying to discern/speculate WHAT was scripted in the show... not if.

Agree on the tattoo machine episode too.

Doesn't the fact that the store is completely empty when they are doing the deal say something about it being staged? :lol

There was a HALO suit on the last episode. Jabba the Son offered him a hundred bucks.

Which was probably the same amount the guy spent on making the armor in the first place. By the way he described making it (he referenced Bondo), it's safe to say he used pink foam (that or he somehow Bondoed the papercraft templates available online).

Yeah, that's definitely a pep suit with the H3 HD files from the 405th. Not super awesome but not bad either.

Did he say anything about it other than that he wanted to sell it?

EDIT: And thanks a ton for the pics.

Electronic helmet, made from the 3d files in the games... umm typically sell for $5000, made with bondo. Explained the game... Guy puts it on and dances around a bit.

Jabba the Son said it's more fun to build than to make it and he'd buy it for $100. He bumped it to $200. The guy wanted $2000, so they passed.

In all fairness...I pretty much despise just about every "reality" show on TV. Is there any subject that these network idiots won't attempt to put into an hour program and make a buck on?Geeses...some moron has the idea to put couples on tv in the wilderness (I don't remember the name of it) and then there is American Idiot, the great race....there are far too many to name. Before it was just about 5 shows or so,now there are probably close to 50 or so to choose from.No wonder the US has an obesity epidemic and kids are flunking out of grade school.

That makes no sense. How does bad tv make people fat and flunk school? I assume you're saying lots of bad tv makes people fat and stupid.

If the shows were so bad that nobody watched them, wouldn't people turn it off and go outside or read or something?

If the tv were good then it would become addictive, which would make people sit and watch, right?

I have my full on con-winning suit with modded BR helmet and half a dozen variants. If anyone would pay 5k for mine I would sell it in a heartbeat. Even something like mine or a full BR suit don't go for hardly more than 2-2.5 K. Like a full Pred suit or something would be about equivalent.

I don't doubt the guy went through more than $200 in materials though. Even a cheap pep suit is around $400.

Cool stuff though.

I've seen on the show a number of times where a customer comes in and they ask a certain price for the item and the Old Man or Rick tells them "I'd give you that much for it but I'd be ripping you off" and they offer the customer a lot more. Pretty darn fine business men if you ask me.

I was expecting it to look a lot worse than it does, but yeah the guy obviously was asking way too much. Part of me thinks he just wanted to try to get his suit on TV and went in with an inflated price so he had an out. That or his only exposure to costuming is pepakura Halo stuff and he really does not have a firm grasp for how much quality stuff sells for.

Why don't these sellers just cut out the middle man and sell the thing on ebay themselves; keeping all the profit.

Why don't these sellers just cut out the middle man and sell the thing on ebay themselves; keeping all the profit.

Multiple reasons why they don't:

They cant be bothered
They really are clueless and dont know how
They just want some tv time
etc...

I still like Pawn Stars but its has been getting worse and worse. The items that come in are better because now there is an interview process to get on the show. They first get pre-screened, then the potential customer is interviewed and then they get put on the show. A lot of the items in the past season werent walkins, in fact some were called by the producers and some were steered there by other people.

What I cant stand about the show now is the horrible scripting of Chum and Big Hoss, it is painful trying to watch them get through a mini segment.
