The Hobbit's dwarfs

Oh tell me about it! I just now found a good pic of Bofur's pants and am going to have to start a new pair, now that I can see the fabric better.
I posted a few new pics of my progress.. Just ignore the coloration, because the coat and over-vest are going into a dye-bath, now I have the cuffs on. The trim is hand drawn with puff ink on twill-tape. And there's a pic of the earring and bone bits.

You have both seen the books, right?
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Chronicles by Daniel Falconer
" " " " " Visual Companion by Jude Fisher
" " " " " Official Movie Guide by Brian Sibley
Sorry, that possibly came off snotty-not my intent, I assure you! I am using these books as fantastic guides, from underwear to hair to props. I've ordered a couple of toy swords that I figure I can mod into Thorin's, got a pretty good lace-front wig, and my beard is real! Finally, a character that I don't have to shave for!

I looked at the books you mentioned. The three books are good but most of the photos of the dwarfs are the same one listed on the internet. They have the great full shots of all of the dwarfs but very few back or side shots. The section you currently have to guess.

Ah, I see. Which dwarf are you planning on?

The cell phone pic I had taken opening night wasn't any good, but basically this is what I threw together in a single afternoon for a dwarf costume on opening night. This wasn't character specific, but learned a couple things form doing this. The boots I had mentioned earlier, are made out of foam, so for what they were and with so little time they actually turned out okay for the event. Sorry I don't have one in costume at the moment, but can't wait to actually do this for real/con.

Did some work on the sword last night, and the scales for the mail shirt today. Here is a pic of the Sculpey stamps I made, and the molds from them. I'll cast the negs in silicone, and the scales from resin.

Also, I picked up 4m of cotton fabric for the shirt. It wasn't dark enough, so I dyed it. Unfortunately, I should've cut out the pieces first-instead, I had to rinse the fabric in the shower, with me in it!

LOL! Been there, done that :D

I'm making progress here, still lots of finishing work to do, vest still needs shoulder trim.

Thanks mon! Can't wait to get our whole group together, though at this rate, it might be Dragon-Con before we get the entire company.

Yep, looks good:) Gonna cut out my shirt before bed tonight, and sew it up tmrw.

Have told it to you yesterday when the picture was fresh...It looks very good and I follow your progress more and more interested.

:popcornExcited to see this ^^

I will def post when its done, I have to shave my beard and head one more time saturday then not for 3 months. I am guessing it will take a few weeks to make the wig and hopefully Ill have a beard back

Lucky you can grow your own ;)

I posted a few more progress pics to my photobucket link.. pants & boots, - my pants fabric was hard to find - ran across some poly fur at Joanns that I like & I'm going to overdye it with poly gold & see what I get. ( & hope I don't melt the fabric )

my regular size boots are extended out about 5 inches with mocc uppers & filled with flexfoam, then the boots are spongepainted & have added epoxy resin bone bits.

Saw the movie for a 5th time! & kept wanting to hit the 'pause' button constantly :popcorn

Nice to see so much love for the Dwarves. :)

I'm seeing some really cool stuff in this thread!

My 2013 project is to get Fili done by the second movie and in the process with some friends about getting the whole Company together :D

Jayn,... Fantastic work. This is coming along so well, love it!:love

What or where are you using for the beards?

I'm using theatre-store-bought moustache, beard & sideburns and adding additional yaki hair with 30second wig hair adhesive..I still need to add some long lighter colors to my 'stache & shape it better- had to curl my ends with a small size curling iron & almost burnt them :( Holding the ends with a super strong hair styling wax.
My cohorts are using yaki hair as well for the full beards..
