Now that was TV gold my friends. If it was before your time, it was basiclly a grade B talent show with a host that got more and more drunk as the show went on.
I say bring it back with Charlie Sheen as the host.
When Gene Gene the Dancing Machine would come on, I'd dance around on my couch like a fool. I remember my grandmother laughing and laughing at me. One of the few memories I have of her before alzheimer's got her.
The two girls with the popsicles was the best act they or any other show ever had on. basically two young chics came out - sat down on stage and proceeded to lick and eat two "rocket" pops.
I believe the first time they showed this segment was in The Gong Show Movie - which I went to see with my mom - it was pretty embarrassing. The one lady who was always a a judge (J P Morgan??) ripping off her top and other "too hot for tv" segments that made me wish I'd never asked my mother to bring me to see it.
Y'know Gene Gene the Dancing Machine lost both of his legs to diabetes - so sad.
I loved this show. I can recall so many great episodes, mainly from the re-runs that were aired in the late 80's/early 90's. The unknown comic was a trip!
It's amazing how prudish tv is these days. That popsicle thing would never fly on tv now. Heck All In the Family wouldn't make it. Wasn't the hose of the Gong Show also a coke head?
