The first lightsaber that I ever built

Hello folks. I wanted to share this with you.

I was cleaning my house and I found the first "prop" that I ever made. When I was a youngling, I was trying to create a lightsaber based on the Obi-Wan's ROTS lightsaber. This was before the movie came out, so considering that I had absolutely no experience (I was 16 at that time) and the only thing that I had was a few pictures of the saber and 10 bucks in my pocket, I ended up making this. I used mostly parts that I found in the garbage, so obviously it isn't screen accurate, but for the 16 years old me, it was awesome.

It is a very cave man version of it, but I'm still wondering, how the hell did I manage to put it together. The thing is built like a tank. I tried to take it apart, but I wasn't able to do it.

Well it's a far cry better than my first!, heh.

What's the emitter made from?

I still keep mine around as a cool reminder of when I first discovered the world of props/rpf

The emitter is a 3 part piece. The bottom of the emitter (I don't know the correct name) is a housing for ball bearings, the top of the emitter is the upper half of a sink flange, and the upper part of the emitter (the one with holes) is a modified locking nut of the same sink flange.

Killer for a first time project at 16. Way to go.

Thanks!. I have to say, that I was really impressed when I saw it. And the good thing is that I built it to be a dueling saber, in fact I also found the stunt blade that I made for it.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see props made totally by hand and capturing the essence of the real thing.

Yea, for a first time garbage saber this is nuts. Awesome work, how'd you put the "clamp" part together?

I don't remember exactly, but I think that the clamp are 3 pieces of PVC tubes of different sizes and the control box is just 4 small pieces of wood glued together and shaped to get that square look, and glued onto the bigger PVC tube. All that is covered in some sort of of tin foil, but it isn't tin foil. I remember that I had some chrome thick plastic bags and I used that. The red jewel is the tip of an LED and the other "jewel" is just a piece of metal screwed to the tubes and through the main piece which was a copper tube that goes from the emitter all the way to the pommel.

That is awesome! Must have been a GREAT trip down memory lane. Definately needs to be displayed with pride! :)

well done!
the first prop that i build was also the Obi wan saber.
but then i was 21... men! time flies.:(
