The Expendables II

what does it matter?

It matters to me because I do like to get invested in movies like this. If you're just going to throw some bada** into the film who has an army for no given reason and has to spell out that he's evil to everyone around him, he's not a character but a walking trope. I like awesome villains, but they've got to have character or else the actors playing the roles of the heroes really do feel like they're here just killing time and not doing anything important.

As a whole, the film didn't feel cohesive. There wasn't enough character-glue to hold it together. So for me it felt like there was way too much, "wouldn't it be cool if we did this!" stuff in the planning stage, without any thought to a progressive narrative. "shouldn't we at least shoe horn the coolness into a plot?" "Nobody will care!!!! We're like legends!!!"

Coupled with all the catchphrases and the "we're not worthy" attitude to Norris, just tore me right out the film.

Being a movie car scale modeler, I´m pretty curious to know if there is a cool car involved. Something like the black custom pickup that was driven by Stallone in the first movie. Can I expect something here?

Finally went and saw it this weekend, and I would have to agree with most on this thread. I liked it well enough and met what I was expecting.

Lots of what in military parlance is known as technicals, except they're more like improvised MRAPS than just a pickup with a heavy machine gun in the bed.

This time it was motorcycles that were featured rather than cars. A bit more than in the first film, but in much the same manner. This time it was custom choppers and an Aprillia rather than Ducati.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Ghetto APC's.

I want his ****ing pen!!!!

The movie had the perfect about of 80s action cheese to make me happy. Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and Willis side by side with guns this time made the movie. And let's not forget the Chuck Norris fact added :).

Saw this last weekend, and loved every bit of it. Be sure you shut your brain off as you're heading in, have fun and just enjoy the cheesy one-liners, awesome action and over the top violence. I honestly thought a ton of the dialogue was hilarious as well. Definitely worth seeing in theaters, preferrably at one that serves beer.
