The Dark Knight Rises (Post-release)

She's a woman, who cares?

And while some of you are trying to regain your breath, let me clarify.
Not only is she a woman, she's being given the respect of a strong role and not being reduced to a mere caricature to be mocked. Selina Kyle stands on her own, strong-willed and .. Not just an object of lust or minimization.

I suspect if they HAD called her catwoman some of you would be crying about objectification and dehumanization of women.. Well, she has a name. Selina Kyle. Hear her roar..

I mean really. Think of all the "here, ***** *****" jokes they had enough respect to NOT run with. Kudos for not givin in to an immature, childish fantasy.

Ok, let me get this straight.

Bruce Wayne can be called the Batman AND the Dark Knight.
Dr. Jonathan Crane can be called Scarecrow.
Joker can be called the Joker.
Harvey Dent can be called Two Face.
Bane can be called Bane.

But Selina Kyle cannot be called Catwoman? One of the most iconic female DC characters who pre-dated the freaking Joker isn't called by her title. And I thought I was giving Nolan credit for actually including a competent female character for once in his Batman universe, but he clearly doesn't think her character is worthy of having a title of her own.

Well I don't think we've ever heard "batmobile" uttered in these films so far but everyone calls it that.

Really? They give her a huge role and you're complaining because she doesn't have a title? The fans all know who she is supposed to be so does it really matter that it's not spelled out for us?

I'm sorry, but I don't judge a product based on what the fans know. After all, Warner Brothers' last two depictions of Catwoman had little resemblance to the original character since the only elements that carried over was the title and her attire, with the painful exception of Halle's Catwoman. This depiction of Selina Kyle has more semblance to the original intent of the character than those previous overpowered zombies. So why now, after all these years when we finally get a proper Catwoman right, they don't call her Catwoman?

Aren't titles important? I think they're important, especially in a comic book universe where a hero is built around that said title. Cripes, the last movie The Dark Knight ended with a love letter to Batman practically building up to his second title. If titles mean very little, why do these films put so much emphasis and build up to them?

You might even argue that if the film doesn't call her Catwoman, than she isn't Catwoman.

Aren't you judging this whole thing based on what you, as a fan, think you know?

Not really. I'm not that much of a Batman fan. I just enjoy the movies. Maybe that post is 100% incorrect and someone does call her Catwoman. I'll just have to wait a see.

Jeyl, we need to have a sticky in every single film thread of you bitching about the female characters. Really, it never changes, only the films.

And, anyway, who cares what they call her. She is not why I am going to see this film anyway.

Now we've officially brought this discussion down to people complaining about people who complain about movies. Why don't you go watch SFDebris' review of The Menagerie and watch him watch Kirk watching the Talosians watch Pike having lunch?

And, anyway, who cares what they call her.

:thumbsup

Okay..."interesting" thread indeed! quite a lot of infighting but, well,I must say I'm an odd one and seeing the ending or "spoiler" has no effect on me just makes me know if I wanna go see the film on not waste my time.

To be honest I'm thinking of not wasting my time on this one.

Why?

Well the stuff I've read here so far remind me of the problems I had (and still do) with The Dark Knight, half the crap Nolan's Batman does the real Batman would NEVER do.

Like quit.

Bruce is driven to the point of being almost as crazy as some of the people he fights,if you want the man to give up you'd have to honestly and truly KILL the guy.

But what does he do after the last film? goes off and mopes for eight years? now he did that in Frank Miller's work but he didn't mope he just tried to live a life as an older gent and enjoy himself.

But the Bat was always eating at him and he finally came back and started kicking hind end and taking names.

THAT is Batman.

I'd think if Nolan's Batman became more stealthy and started a campaign of terror amongst the criminal population that became a legend that would be more what you'd expect of a young and hunted Bruce Wayne, all the while keeping a death grip on his identity.

He WOULDN'T quit and slink off.....

So far the last two films have not made me happy and I honestly only watch The Dark Knight for the Joker, and looks like I'll be sitting this new and last film out.

I may give it a watch when the DVD pops up.

Just my two cents.

Not a huge fan of the Nolan films other than having him being a bit more realistic is nice. Not a fan of the Bat vehicle. On a side not a local Regal Cinema is having a special Trilogy showing thursday night starting with Batman Begins and ends with Rising. Also apparently in Pittsburgh there was a special showing already. I'll get this one on DVD like i did the rest and most other films.

Wait just a minute. I know people are not actually taking time to post in a Batman thread that they are not seeing Batman?! How dare you people?!

Come on, it's the *** **** Batman we are talking about, here! Nolan gets it, and I am loving what he has done with his treatment of the legend so far.

Batman rocks, even as an old man.

Btw, I am j/k

Somewhat.

Yea Moo I know, just I've had some problems with the Nolan take since the last film, and we're getting more of it? yea right,I'd rather go watch the 1968 Adam West Batman movie for $7!! :lol

I honestly think if they steered Batman to be almost as nuts as some of the wackos he chases around it'd be closer to the comics.....

To take that comic bit to the film "Stop? me? don't you know?? I'm the ******* BATMAN!"

He don't quit.
He don't ride off into the sunset.
He just sits back for awhile and thinks of a way around the latest roadblock so he can go terrorize more evil doers in the memory of his dead parents.

I like the new set of movies just they are a bit OFC for Batman.

I am of two minds. I love the Adam West Batman, and I feel almost as equally passionate about Nolan's Batman.

Who knows, maybe someday we will get this Batman, training Batman Beyond;)

Well one thing is for sure.......

If we get another retelling of his origin in the next set of films I WILL go after someone at DC with a ball bat! :behave

We need to advance Batman, and hell Superman too,to go beyond the rut they're in,for chrissakes I don't even wanna hear about the Joker,Riddler,Two-Face or ANY of Bat's biggest foes.

Do something new people,I'd friggin' love a three film take on Gothic (with the undead monk) and give us the old gray and black Batman, say an outfit with the same look as Superman's new one but built in the comic Batman style.

I'd love for them to do a Batman that leads into a batman beyond, the nolan universe could fit with the beyond stuff if they worked with it.
