The Dark Knight 1:1 - first casting pics on page 3

Nothing too new to share just yet - but here are some "visual updates", ha ha. I found a very close mesh to use on the neck section and am cleaning up a resin casting to make another and final mold of.

Here is a very crappy and close up pic of the mesh - the second mold will have this incorporated in (brought to you by TiVo, lol):

Here's a pic of the casting I am cleaning up:

And just a pic I took that I thought looked cool:

Re: The Dark Knight 1:1

Thanks all for the comments!

Working on this I realized something: 2 things in this universe have become the bane of my existence... symmetry and smoothing.

Not sure how it will work on a large surface area but for maquette sculpting a great way to get the surface even is to work with a guitar string bent in a loop shape and attached to a handle of some sort. Use the thicker strings such as the G note string which has a centre wire with a second wire coiled around it. When bent in a loop the outer wire acts like a rake when run across the surface of your clay. This is the easiest way to even out a clay surface; using some kind of tool with tines (kinda like a fork) The rake method will help you get your surface nice and even but the size of rake you use depends a bit on what you're trying to smooth. Too big and it just messes up your surface, too small and it takes forever. So the idea is, build up, then scrape away to even the surface.

Hope it helps,

The frist time I saw Batman Begins..I thought..nah this isn't gonna be good..well I enjoyed seeing Christian Bale play Batman. I loved his performanceas the new Dark Knight. This sculpture is GREAT. The likeness to his facial appearance is superb. I wish I was talented enough to sculpt clay that good. I sure hope they do another Batman movie with him playing the part. He has done a great job as the role of Batman. This piece is fantastic. I won't mind having this piece to show off in my collection.

hey guys thanks to all - this is temporarily halted while I study for finals - watch for updates in the coming weeks!
