"The Black Hole" Sentry Bust buildup tutorial

Hello everyone,
This is a tutorial of my first buildup of my Sentry Bust kit, to try to get the likeness as close as possible to the original screen used masks.

Here is the bust in raw form, straight from the mold.

Here it is with the seams sanded, and the hole for the mouth grill removed. I am using epoxy putty (like Aves or Magic Sculpt) to build up the edges and get a uniform surface for the grill material to mate up to.

Closeup of mouth area. Hole in back will be filled in with putty as well.

Ear vents rough cut to shape.

Here is another quick update! Bust has been primed with red primer. I used some metal hardware cloth cut to shape for the screen for the mouth area.

I also used some chromed plastic sink pipe for the eyes, I traced the shape of the eyes, cut them out of the pipe. They snap into place over the eyes like giant contact lenses.

Next I will cut more hardware cloth for the ear vents and paint the bust. More pics coming soon!

Excellent! You should make the sink pipes and grill part of the kit. Would make an easier build for people.

Thanks, everyone! The sink pipes and hardware cloth are available at almost any hardware store, I'm trying to keep the costs of the bust down as low as I can so everyone that wants one can get one.

I got the Sentry bust painted, first I masked off and sprayed the three silver sections on the back of the head, as well as the eye sections. I let the silver dry overnight, then I masked off the silver and sprayed a basecoat of Krylon Regal Red, followed by a generous layer of dullcoat to knock down the shine. After this had fully cured, I began airbrushing Flat Black into all the creases and on top of the corners.

BTW, another great looking choice for the screen is drywall sanding sheets. The mesh is a bit tighter than the normal screen.

Looks great! I always get flak for liking the Black Hole but it's a fun ride with some cool design elements. A few years back I got a great VINCENT toy at Comic-con, about 8-10" tall, love it.
