The Big 'V' - Volunteering!

I thought it might be nice to have a thread for all those that have volunteered in the past as well as those who have never volunteered to be able to share their experiences and possibly let those that might be interested in volunteering at a Con what kind of work there is available, that the expectations are, compensations, etc...

So share your experiences and questions in this thread. Here's some prompting questions to help you get started.

Have you volunteered at a Con before? Which Ones?

What was your favorite Con to go Big V at?

Least favorite?

What sort of jobs are available at the conventions?

Favorite 'Con' job?

Least favorite?

What advice can you give to people that want to become a volunteer?

Have any funny volunteer stories?

Etc...etc...

I'll put more as it comes to mind but for now I unleash the hounds...*coughs* ahem... to turn a phrase that is. ;)

I've volunteered at Emerald City Comicon for the last 6 years...? 7 years? I forget. I'll do a writeup of my experiences when I get home. :)

I have volunteered at SakuraCon here in Seattle the last two years as a panel moderator, and this year I'm the assistant director, or assistant to the director, of ceremonies. Oddly, the distinction between the two is a moot point really.
Lots of fun being staff. Also, lots of fun meeting the celebrities, well, most of the time.
Although, the convention has really weird prop restrictions. Not sure why on that one, I'll have to investigate further.

Cheers!
