The Batman

Maybe I’m just seeing what I want to see, but it looks as though there’s a little influence from the Animated Series Batmobile.

The new car looks like it started as a 68-70 Charger. (Vin Diesel's black muscle car in the 'Furious' movies, the orange Dukes of Hazzard car, etc.) The windshield/roof/pillars look like it.

Imagine this cab/roof with the side glass & vent window frames taken out:

While the Batmobile does have a classic muscle car look it to it, one thing tells me that it's not a modified classic muscle and that's the third brake light on the back of the roof. That's a fairly modern thing so whatever the base car is, it's not that old, it can't be anything from before the law went into effect in '86.

Third brake lights are easily transplanted or bought aftermarket.

That whole car is seriously modified. The classic Charger probably contributed a few panels and influenced the overall shape. I'm sure the rest is catalog parts and a tube frame. That thing in the set photos appears to have a 10-cylinder overhead-cammed engine behind the front seats.

The last several Batmobiles have all been huge projects. Probably over a million dollars each time if you adjust for currency inflation. Concept art was commissioned, they have to build multiple copies of everything, etc. We're way past the era when they would just put some fender flares & dress-up parts on a production car.

I don't know guys. Maybe I shouldn't look at these previews. The only Batmobile that really impressed and surprised me was the Keaton 89 Batmobile. And everything was a surprise. I didn't see any trailers, images, or stuff in magazines back then. I love that scene when he said stop with the remote. Don't forget the shields too. And of course, the Batwing going to the moon will probably never be topped. I think even Kevin Smith mentioned that in one of his videos.

I was hyped for Affleck's Batman but was really let down. Easily the best comic looking Batman in some really poor movies. If this new Batman is a Year One type deal that might be cool. But when I look at those images, I see someone's modded muscle car and not a Batmobile. The next car I get will be more of a Batmobile for me compared to this one.

I don't think that's a modified classic muscle car. I think it just reflects the lines of the 78 chargers, but my guess is it's a fiberglass body on a welded up frame. Something along the lines of a kit car, just way more expensive and all custom.

When I was a kid and saw Batman '89 in the cinemas when it was released, I was so caught up in the movie I had genuinely forgotten that Batman even had a Batmobile. I hadn't seen any trailers or previews, and I will never forget that reveal and that moment. My thought process was "Oh yeah, he has a car! ..AND IT'S AWESOME."

But when I look at those images, I see someone's modded muscle car and not a Batmobile. The next car I get will be more of a Batmobile for me compared to this one.

I'm not that invested in superhero films these days (especially Batman ones) but I imagine this car will get upgraded as the film(films?) progress

Possible.

But that windshield area looks like the production car. The front roof pillar thickness (diameter/size) looks a lot like a stock Charger body. (The matte black '70 Charger photo I posted is a Fast & Furious car. The front pillar looks a lot thicker on that car because it has a rollcage tube there.) And that looks like the factory chrome trim around the new Batmobile's windshield glass (just painted black). You don't normally see these kinds of details recreated on fiberglass shells.

The vast majority of this new Batmobile is clearly customized though. Huge cartoonish fenders, the front & rear areas are totally customized, the engine is moved to the other end of the car, etc.

But the third brake light strongly suggests, to me, that it's not a vintage/classic muscle car but a modern production vehicle that's been dressed up to resemble a classic muscle car. There's no reason to add a 3rd brake light to a classic car, I've seen plenty of classic cars on the road without the third brake light. Likewise, if it's just a shell over a stock frame of some sort, why bother with the 3rd brake light? Of course, why bother with brake lights at all? Somehow I doubt that Batman would be all that concerned about the Batmobile being street legal. :D

My money is on it being a custom job all the way, wouldn't make any financial sense to modify a production car that much when you're going to need multiple copies for filming. Either way it looks pretty bad ass! (y)

I love the car as a car. As a Batmobile? Yeah I still dig it. Reminds me of the Neal Adams era type Batmobiles from the comics with a little Mad Max thrown in. Is it my ideal style Batmobile? No, that would still be the Anton Furst Batmobile. Same with the Keaton suit being my ideal suit. But I can appreciate them trying something new. I'm still going on the assumption these aren't the final suit and car.

Just noticed this is the first time since the Barris Batmobile that it has doors instead of a hatch.
