And so it begins! I just got the kits in today... BIG THANKS to Doug, (blufive) for doing such an awesome molding and casting job on these. There is very little clean-up work needed, that mean we get to the painting faster! (Wohoo!)

This is what I'm doing to finish the kits I have been commissioned to paint and build, however, for those of you who are doing your own, feel free to chime in! :)

Here's the kits as they came in...

There's some very minor seams that need to be removed and in the case of the "head", you'll need to grind off the "spur" at the base and drill a hole for the stem.

I left the little platform at the base of the stem for ease in painting. We'll be cutting these off at assembly time. I also mount the "heads" on a little pedestal as well to make them easy to paint.

*EDIT* Found a new more accurate version for the three main leaves... more info coming on where to find them. :)

More updates to come!

I'm about to get started on this kit as well. In order to get as close to movie accurate as possible, I took some screenshots.

Couple of things to note:

The coffee tin - There seem to be 3 varieties of the Maxwell House coffee can available. The CORRECT tin is the one with orange "Maxwell House Coffee" writing (not the white variety), the large tilted cup logo (not the smaller cup with the vine logo) and "Good to the last drop" printed on the blue background (most other tins have this printed on an orange scroll).

Petals - There looks to be 3 layers. The layer of petals closest to the head are green with purple veins on both sides. The next layer of petals are pink/purple. And the other layer are green again, this time pointing down toward the ground rather than up around the head. All have a glossy/waxy look.

Leaves - custom look. Each has 6 orange/brown spots running around the outer edge - 3 on the left, 3 on the right. Again, glossy/waxy look.

Hope this helps. :)

And one question about the kit - is the pouty lip supposed to the the top or bottom lip? (From the film, either could work really).

Hey Barry!

I received your email. I'm glad you're pleased with the castings! I'll be watching this thread to see how mine is coming along!

:D

Thanks buddy!

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

Wonderful thread thanks for sharing. I've bookmarked it and I really hope there is another run of the kits down the line when things here have calmed down a bit.

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

Just got my kit in, can't wait to get started. Great casting, great sculpt!

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

Sweet!!! I've got mine cleaned up and ready to roll, and I intend to start painting on her this weekend. I'm going w/ the pouty lip on top. :D

Second the "great casting, great sculpt" comment. She's too damn cool.

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

Great reference, Howlrunner! Thanks for posting those! I always liked the multi-layered look of those pedals. As I mentioned in the JY thread, I'll be using modified rose pedals for this part. I'll go over the mods when I get to that part.

As for the three leaves with the orange spots, I was doing some addition looking around last night, (I can't tell you HOW long I've looked for foliage for this project!), and stumbled on what I think will make a better leaf to build on. It's overall shape is a little closer match to the screen used, so I'm planning to use them instead. (I'll be posting pics of them along with where to find them soon)

All the kits were primed and are now ready to be painted. I plan to start that tonight and will try to post some "step by steps" for the painting process.

As for the "lip" question, when I sculpted this, I did it with the lip that sticks out the most being on top. If you notice in the screen caps, the top lips juts out slightly over the bottom. :)

More to come!

Here's the latest update...

Went out at lunch to Michaels, (they love me there!), and managed to locate the correct rose to use as the base for the pedals around the head. The flower itself is pretty easy to take apart. The two part shown are what's needed.

Here's a shot of what it looks like in place. This is a quickie just to show the overall look, which I think is pretty darn close! I will be airbrushing these as well to match to screen used version a little better.

I'm hoping to get started painting this weekend. As some have requested, I will try to take some progress shots along the way showing how I'm painting these.

Stay tuned!

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

I can tell you what I did for the big leaves around her. I too raided every fake foliage shop in my area. I can't remeber what it was called but I found one that had those large spade shaped leaves. I held it up behind the pod until I found one that was the right size. For the little orange seed things I used bright orange "puff paint" fabric paint and put little gobs of it on the leaf then waited a little bit for it to tack up then used a tooth pick to shape little points one them. Hope that helps out some. Then two little vines coming out at the bottum were some kind of ivy they had. I get used a heat gun to shape it like in the picture and cut off the leaves I didn't want.

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

I was going to go down the silk petal route, but I've never really liked the look of silk petals up close - far too flat and material like.... So when I was out checking for plants, I found this:

Nice, chunky foam petals. :) A little work later, and this is what I'll be using:

DSCF3303.jpg

Now these petals don't quite look wide enough, but when they're wrapped around the head and layered up, it looks good, and the chunkiness of the foam adds a nice extra dimension.

And this is (with a little more work - still need to paint the brickwork pattern on the underside and pink petals) how they'll be attached - with the small one facing the opposite direction from the large ones.

Been painting up the head all day. Looks nice - fairly movie-like in the colouration, but not as visually appealing as the painted kit shown already.

They look nice, but the ones for the small plant in the film look to be silk...you can even seen spots where the edges look a little worn and unravelled in certain close-ups.

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

Great tips for the spots on the leaves, BV! That's the way I'm planning to do mine as well, I like the overall look. :)

Well, I did make some progress on these this weekend. I managed to get most of the painting done on the "heads". Once the stems are painted, those who ordered "painted kits", yours will be ready to ship. I will be starting on the mods for the pedals and leaves for the remaining full build-ups and should have those ready to go out very soon.

Here's some shots of the painting session...

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

are those the finished painted versions? there seems to be a lot more purple and green on the movie version, whereas yours seems to have a lot more yellow

Re: Feed me, Seymour!! The Audrey 2 Progress Thread

The ones seen in the table shots are the finished versions. (The flash makes them appear to be a brighter yellow than they actually are) The one on with on the stem with the added pedals was not fully painted so it does appear to be a lot more yellow than the final version would be.

The way I am painting these is the same way the one I had in my JY thread was painted.

However, I want you, (those of you who have commissioned painting and build-ups), to be happy with what you are getting. If there are changes you want made, please let me know. :)
