TFA Tie Fighter Pilot project

Greetings all!

So as the title says this project I'm starting on will be the new Tie Fighter Pilot. However not as seen in The Force Awakens...that S&M suit is terrible in my opinion. I bought the 1/6 figure from Sideshow Collectibles and the suit material is much more appealing. So I will base this project using that figure as reference. Other than the suit material and a couple of colors of buttons on the chest boxes it's really the same thing.

So the first thing I did was to develop a 3D model of the helmet. I found a downloadable option for Pepakura which I then remodeled, changing things such as size, the head opening and adding more detail to the low poly version. Then I spliced and 3D printed it using Petg filament. PLA works just fine as well I have found.

The oxygen hose connections on the front are printed differently so the one on the right side can have a hose attached to it. The next step was to clean the print up using bondo and glazing putty and a lot of sanding. Which is where I am at now.

I've also been working on the chest boxes, using a combination of 3d printed items and some acrylic plastic and of course our favorite glue E6000. A little finishing and some paint and the pieces are ready to be attached. The oxygen hose is from a vintage russian flight mask. I tried to remove the material coating it had but that wasn't going to happen :(. So to give it a rubbery look I painted a few coats of Plasti-Dip onto it which worked quite well. I'm also in the process of modeling the rest of the armor as I go. The arm greaves in the pic are in the process of being cleaned up and assembled. The box on the exterior and the little boxes the run vertically on the side are not in the pic but are finished.

Thanks for looking! I'll update this post as I finish new items. Cheers!

The helmet is finished with some interior work as well, fits nice and comfy like a motorcycle helmet.:) I also made a neckseal and have started work on the shoulder bells.

Hey nice work dude..clean looking prints u got there. Not tried using PETG before...any better/worse than PLA?

Cool looking neckseal too...what did u use for the tubing? I've tried draught excluder but it's a mat finish

There are some advantages to Petg, however high temps are needed to use it. PLA is nice filament and works just fine for my needs, low temps and very easy to print with.

The neckseal is pleather, folded over at the top with 1/2 inch seams running down. I used ethernet cable to place in between the seems. Ethernet cable is nice and light and flexible.

So I see they are using a laced boot for this display, I think it looks pretty cool and more modern. However, was this used just to make it work for the display? Would it be OK to use this style of boot for a cosplay suit?

Ok great well as long as no one cares I suppose I'll do whatever I like! (y)thumbsup

As much as I like the laced boots as well, the pictures comes from ANOVOS' armor set and thus can't be considered as reference in this regard. So for movie accuracy, I would say no laced boots.

And what a killer prints for the chest and back armors! Impressive

Thanks for the comments. Murderink, no this isn't a kit, this is a one off build for myself.

Everything is pretty much complete now except for the suit really. Since I'm not displaying this suit like my others I went and built an armour stand for just the upper sections.

I'm quite happy with the result!
