Testing lightbars for prop displays

I'm in the process of testing some lightbars that I picked up a little while ago on my displays. They run off 3x AAA batteries and can be affixed directly to my shadowboxes.

Give me your opinions...

Note: They would be painted gloss black to match the boxes.

yeh, I like the look...simple as well, with them being battery powered too :) I've always liked the look of your shadow boxes but still not had any luck here in the uk finding suitable ones........

Great job and like you say, once painted black, they'll look even better....great find!!

I don't know about painting them man,
They actually look really clean the way they are. Black on black, if it's the wrong tone of black or different texture, will conflict and stand out.
They look like they're built as part of the display as they are. I'd say leave'em

EDIT:

OR....
since they're battery powered, could you just place them INSIDE the display with the items? I'd be curious to see how that looks.
That way you wouldn't get any glare off of the glass.

Picked them up at BJ Wholesale Warehouse. They are Sylvania LED Light Flutes. Cost about $15 for 2...

I'm still torn between using these or just installing track lighting.. At least with the track lights, I could turn them all on at once via the light switch.

The price to cover both walls in multiple directions would be about the same..

Yeh, actually, looking at the pics again.....I agree, I think they look great the colour they are now.....leave them as they are. Have you got any pics with the bar along the top of the frames now?

I'll certainly keep my eyes open to see if I can find anything similar here in the UK

I admit they look great, but you're going to get pretty sick and tired of replacing AAA batteries all the time... Regardless of what the packaging says, those LEDs will be half as bright after about 12 hours, and dead after 24 if you run them continuously. Or do you plan on manually turning on & off each bar every time you enter and leave the room? Yikes...

If you want my advice, buy ceiling tracks for MR16s, GU10s, or PAR20s, but instead of installing 50-watt incandescent bulbs, buy 6-watt dimmable high-power LED retrofits (more expensive upfront, about $35 each) but the ROI will be 6 months or less if you keep them burning non-stop) and the current draw for the entire room (assuming 10 lamps) would be about the same as one 50-watt standard bulb.

Yeah, I think track lighting is the better choice. I'm looking at different design choices where I can replace the bulbs with SSC P7 LEDs, just need the proper driver circuits.
