I'm starting a Heavy minigun build. Many of the components will be 3D printed. I plan on not only a motorized barrel but also full lights and sound. I'll start a build thread when I get my first pieces printed and test fitted (once there's something fit to print).
i picked up the tf models again and started on a festive rocket launcher. Witch is just a regular rocket launcher with blinking christmas lights wrapped around it. I would like to find LEDs with the same shape as the festive weapons.
progress so far, i have ordered some styrene and bits to make the lights blink in the correct manner
Let me bump this 10-year-old thread, a lot has happened since 2010 and I now have a place to do some modeling again.
I still want to complete what I tried to start in 2014, make a model of a festive weapon from Team Fortress 2.
New attempt:
This time I am trying a technique I have been wanting to try. Print solid blank patterns in PLA and turn the parts to get a decent finish.
First blank pattern printed with leftover PLA
Solid printed PLA machines quite nicely with a sharp tool and light cut to keep the temperature down.
Some of the blank patters have holes modeled in so the parts will fit together like in the 3D model.
smaller details are printed with SLA
I have currently started ruining the model by painting it.
The rocket launcher is more or less finished, I need to touch up the paint. The Vallejo paint turns darker when dry so it is hard to color match the 3D model from the game.
I have started on the Christmas lights, the plan was to print some Christmas light shapes and make a mould so I could pour transparent resin with colour into the mould and put the LED. This did not work, the lights are too small to cast with the resin I have. My workaround is to use coloured hot glue. I just squirted the glue into the mould and jammed an LED into the hot glue and had a Christmas light in seconds.
