TDK Joker Make-up Test # 1

Hey everyone! I have finally started on my TDK Joker and I wanted to share my first attempt at the make up. I am shooting for the Interrogation Scene in these pics. Granted I know I need the prosthetics yet and you can't really tell by the pics because they are so grainy that there is flesh showing though on the forhead, under the eyes, on the nose and near the chin areas which is what I was shooting for but anyway and thoughts or advice? Thanks

Kinda difficult without a clearer pic but it DOES look like you need to smear the makeup around the eye up to the forehead. What I do when I do a character is have a bunch of pix printed out where I am doing the app and copy it as best as possible. It DOES look pretty good though I'd trim the hair down just a tad.

I actually like the eyes. The make-up kind of change through the movie... in some scenes it's much more smeared than others. I actually took the more idealized look from the promotion pictures which is where it was messy but not smeared too much. But here would be more like the scenes where it's much more smeared, like it's been running.

One thing I do wonder about is the white. I pretty much think it was caked on with the creases showing through. That can be achieved easily by scrunching up your face when applying it. Of course it could be that way and I just can't tell from the dark pics.

Oh I agree he did a great job of the eyes but he's recreating the interrogation scene and the makeup is very smeared even before Batman beat the bahjeezus out of him. I think there are higher res. versions on the definitive Joker thread. If not just google it. Plenty out there too.

Thanks for the advice! when I was applying it I did have my face scrunched but you can't really tell from the pics at all but I guess that is the glory of an older digital camera and bad lighting :unsure I used pancake make up and when all was said and done I sprayed it with water from a spray bottle and let it all run and then blotted it where I needed to. I'll definitely take the eye black further up the forehead. Thanks for the pics too! they will help a ton..I was working mostly from memory but next time around I'll have a few prints in front of me. and yeah...the hair's gotta go lol

Nice Pics! I think your make-up looks great! I'll be doing the make-up again this evening and will get some better pics and see what you think..we're working on a Slave Leia costume for my brother to wear as a prank on one of our Squadmates so we'll have a nicer camera here and we'll take a short spell this evening for me to get a couple of pics

Look forward to it. DO what I do before doing a character and watch the heck out of the movie to get all his nuances down. By the time you do you'll even memorize entire scenes and that drives people over the edge, they love it.

I dont think its possible to really do a bad make-up job on this version of the joker :confused no matter how you do it, it will look fine

I dunno man I saw some pretty bad ones on Halloween. The one on right went a little happy on the red. That's me on the left. I needed to lose more weight for this costume.
I went a little overboard myself on the eyes. Wasn't too happy with it that night.

Sorry I didn't get the pics up last night..we had a few problems with one of our dogs and ended up taking her to the vet early this morning but I'll get a few pics tomorrow afternoon. One question if I may? Bleyd..what are you using for the hair green? right now I am using pancakes for the face but still unsure on what to use for the hair just yet and I really like the color you use

My hair is naturally dark dark Brown. I dyed it as light as I could without burning the hair out of my scalp. Coupla packets of the kelly Green hair gel from Hot Topic for the underlayer and that Joker green hairspray that came out for Halloween, Just wish I picked up more of that stuff and they make more. I LOVE it and the nicest part is it washes out so easily. Check my previous post for myspace albums and look under Jokerize. I step by step process how I did my hair just didn't show me spraying the hair.
After seeing alot of the wigs out I wasn't about to spend a pretty penny on a tight budgeted costume (under 200 for everything minus makeup) so figured I'd use my own even though it's too straight and not quite long enough.

When I dyed my hair I pulled out as many pix of Mister Ledger sans makeup to get as close to his base color as possible.

ok, I finally have a better pic. I took the black up the forehead more and let it run a bit more too. I definitely like it better than my last pics especially the better lighting even if it did glare out my forehead a bit :lol

I think it should be a little bit messier though and maybe break up the smoothness on the chin. What do you think?

Nah it came out great. Just do the makeup TO the hairline and don't worry bout it getting in the hair some. Look closer and you'll see it in his hair in some pix. What you using for the eyes? Mine is a bit too greasy for me but I don't want to have to buy anything more til this stuff runs out.

Thanks I'll make sure to take it all the way up. The black I'm using is Paradise by Mehron. It's basically for face painting. I got it in larger cups which run anywhere from 6.99 to 8.00 each. You could also use Aqua Color brand or just a Black pancake make-up which any costume shop or theatre supply place will carry. Also some magic shops carry the Paradise and Aqua Color.

I'm using Ben Nye but I don't care for the texture. I DO have a little ReelCreations left but not sure if I have any developer to thin it out. The Ben Nye is a clown color wheel. ALl 3 colors in one container which is nice for touchups but with this costume the more wear and tear the better it looks. I picked all of it at

along with the Colodian AND a big cake of white as well. I bought liquid latex but didn't like how it came out so I don't use it. The collodian works just fine for me by itself.

Item: ABWK-51 - Red White & Black Wheel
Quantity: 1

Item: ABCF-01 - Cloud White MagiCake, 0.25 oz.
Quantity: 1

Item: A0204 - Collodion, Rigid, 1 oz.
Quantity: 1

I had originally thought about sculpting my scars with the final pieces being either latex or Michael Davy's watermelon but after seeing what a lot of Joker's have done with the collodion that's the route I'm probably going to go. I know there is also a collodi-color that comes in different shades which would be great for other make-up jobs and I'll use the red stuff for my Dengar when it's done but I have used the Ben Nye make-up though. Both the grease and creme when I did clowning a couple years back and set it with Ben Nye Neutral Set powder. What I liked most about it was it didn't smear even when sweating but I wanted this to run something mad which is why I grabbed the pancake and face paints...I know there is a sealer for it which would prevent it from running or smearing once finished but I can't think of what it is called at the moment

Yeah I tried a mix of collodian and latex and the latex didn't hold up for long. The Collodian I can tear off and reapply with minimal work and slight touch ups on the makeup. As you can see in the pic here the latex holds the makeup and when it lifts looks very unnatural. This was after a full day of wearing it though. The link is to Myspace album of the steps I took and what I used to get there. I DO need to take pix of the type makeup as well though.
