Objects on the Move!
Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (EMP|SFM) is creating additional gallery space for upcoming exhibitions. As a result, the museum is moving a few objects to new locations.
A unique object, the Flying Spinner Car from the film Blade Runner, will be moved on July 7 from the Level 3 space in the museum. To do this, several exterior panels from the side of the building will be removed. Once it is out of the space, the Flying Spinner Car will be transported to another location for conservation. You are welcome to observe this process and take photographs. We expect the most interesting time to watch the move will be between 10:00 and 11:00 am.
Later this summer the Flying Spinner Car will be installed into Sky Church—a public area of the museum—where it can be enjoyed by everyone.
Also to note, Homeworld/Level 2 of SFM will be closed for object installations on July 8. The gallery space will re-open on July 9.
Beginning July 9, visitors will be able to view the model of the Enterprise-D from the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Tree of Life from The Fountain, the 2006 film by Darren Aronofsky, in Homeworld/Level 2 of SFM.

I coulda sworn the tree of life from the fountain was already on display there, I saw it last summer.The 8th huh... I work 3 blocks from the Seattle Center, and I coincidentally get off at 10 am. Ha. Hows that for timing. Wish I had a camera.

There is a third level above the main two floors.

It is normally and open space that is reserved for special events.

Last year, shortly after Paul Allen bought a whole bunch of new stuff, they did a temporary display of new stuff over the summer.

I managed to snap a few while I was there. Got caught three time but the didn't throw me out.

I went there in August with Carson Dyle, Star-Art, and Cobywan. The entire third level was closed off, so none of that stuff was on display. Apparantly, they popped the panels off the exterior of the building to get the Spinner out, but didn't measure the width of the opening that they had to negotiate it through to get it to it's new home. :eek So, when they realized it wasn't going to fit, they tarped off the opening and closed off that gallery.

I guess they finally bought a tape measure.

As for photography, it is verbotten inside, but you can get away with it if you are careful - no flash, watch for the roving staff, and go with some friends that can run interference for you.

I had thought this area was where the Spinner was on display away from the general audience .now with it moved to a main atrium where I guess everyone can photograph it,I thought there was nothing cool to see in this off limits area.obviously I was wrong since I had missed the Ent-D.power loader.queen alien as on and on...sucks:wacko

There was, at one point, a great deal of stuff on display in the upper-most part of the museum (Spinner, 11" Seaview, Klingon D-7, and dozens of costumes and assorted Trek miniatures). Here's hoping said exhibits are still in place when the third floor re-opens to the public.
