Torture waiting for this to drop... I don't think it's wide release til mid-November

I'm really not familiar enough with Taika's work to make a fair comparison, but it does feel like a Wes Anderson movie.

A boy who's imaginary friend is a twisted personification of Hitler who struggles with being a good Nazi vs harboring a jewish girl from the guy who made my favorite Marvel movie - Thor: Ragnorok?

That's just about as comedically quirky and at the same time, as deadly serious as it gets.

Should make for a very interesting blend. Looking forward to it

What can we base our next laugh out loud comedy about? I know, a megalomaniacal twisted murderer of Jews, foreign nationals, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, the mentally ill, the physically disabled, any one of his own race who opposed him or just someone with the wrong hair and or eye color (as determined by him)

Yeah, GREAT idea for a movie!

Yeah, GREAT idea for a movie!

Pretty closed minded about a movie you haven’t seen.

And also not at all what the movie is about.

The movie was fantastic.

I had a tear in my eye for most of it... not just for the heartbreaking moments, but moments where I’m just smiling cuz I Can’t believe a movie is so good

everyone hit it out of the park.

the kid is the best. Holy. Amazing

Scarlett was great.

Sam Rockwell is always great

The actor playing the Jewish girl was great

the ending I had to wipe my eyes before the lights came back on

I was in from the first frame.

Taika just made one of my all time faves

Who voted it was bad? I’d love to hear why.

I’m gonna assume that was voted unseen.

I've not scene it, but being a kiwi and watched his early stuff I think its most likely more emotional and pulls at a few heart strings. "Boy" was really the big step, maybe 10 years ago that stepped up his career.

I'm in two minds about the subject . . . . But I guess there's some war movie every year with hero's and villain's. I'm unsure about how comedic it will be vs how psychological it will be. I suspect all of the funny moments are in the trailer. (could be wrong)

Better go see it.

So, serious question...if the only movie of Waititi’s I’ve actually enjoyed was Ragnarok, will I find anything here to enjoy?

The trailers do literally nothing for me, and the other films of his I’ve seen I thought were just awful...even “What We Do In The Shadows” which was almost universally acclaimed.

well I loved Ragnorok, but didn’t really care for anything of his before that... I went on the strength of Ragnorok alone.

I found the dialogue on par with and that same style of Ragnorok - which I love - and only sets itself apart when it gets to the more emotional scenes.

In some ways it reminded me of Favreau’s “Chef” in tone... and by that I mean it just always feels optimistic. You never feel it’s going to go too dark... and because of the time period it’s set in, it feels like it could go dark at any minute.

And the Hitler bit completely works because it’s not “Hitler”... it’s a little kid’s idealized, imaginary version of who he thinks Hitler is. He’s Adolf’s biggest fan... and the kids arc is great.

And they nailed the ending

They obviously wouldn't be speaking German, but the accents seemed hit or miss. Some of the humor was a little predictable.

Scarlett Johanson definitely delivers the standout performance of the piece. Early on I was thinking "what's up with those shoes?" Of course later we find out...

Overall, a good film. Not for everyone, but worth seeing.

Went again, just as good as the first time. Applause from an almost full theatre at a 4:20 Saturday matinee screening.

Surprised I haven’t heard more about this flick...
but then this theatre is the only place it’s playing in Vancouver... such a small release
