T-47 Snowspeeder 1:1 full scale prop build

Outrageous!!!

I like the bit when you say "Starting the armor plating...." then us users scroll down and see actual "armor plating" in progress! Liked that a lot, lol.

I've gone way overboard on making this thing as industrial "real" looking as possible. There is over 230 pounds of 1/10" thick plate aluminum on it already and we have not finished plating the vertical walls of the gun and engine boxes or addressed any of the back half of the speeder. Even more will be added when we replace the rounded over 4" wide plastic on the wing edges and the three large flat nose pieces.

I'm pleased that people are liking it so far. Thanks everyone for the great comments of support.

Tuesday May 19, 2015. 46 continuous build days since we started April 4.

The port wing is assembled and everything that has been built so far is now added in place for the first time. There are still lots of little detail greeblies to add on later, but for now the bulk of it is complete.

The 12 foot long, 4" diameter aluminum gun tube slides straight through all of the 4.050" diameter holes cut in the gun and engine box vertical walls and through the support tube of the 40" long middle cannon section. The gun and engine boxes are through bolted and wing nut tightened to the wings. We drilled a couple of 4" hole saw access holes to get our hands up through the wings to secure the boxes while lying flat on our back, under the wings for assembly.

This whole gun sub-assembly stiffens the wing panel even more, and keeps it completely flat when I performed a test climb, walking up the wing and kneeling by the canopy cover for the first time. Very momentous occasion that we did not take a picture of... Fortunately, NASA and Neal Armstrong did not make the same mistake.

My god man what's wrong with you... posting that filth on the internet like that! You should be ashamed of yourself for all this geek-gasming content here! I mean... c'mon! You could at least have the decency of covering her ports up or something! I mean, this is just so beautiful it gives me vile and impure fabricating thoughts! I need to go pray to the gods of MPC for forgiveness! :)

Wednesday May 20, 2015. 47 continuous build days since we started April 4.

Adding the hours up, working 3 to 4 hours each evening after "real" day work, and 7 to 8 hours on Saturdays, and 4-5 hours on Sundays, multiplied times two idiots, adds up to around 430 man-hours of construction time.

The starboard wing is now assembled and attached to the body tub. The whole ship is now balanced quite nicely and is easy to push around on its 3 point landing gear wheels.

A sightly offset view shows the depth of the speeder better. The front gun flash suppressors are temporarily in place, but are completely lacking any detail. We haven't lowered the wheels back down, so it is sitting about 6" too high. When lowered to regular display height ( the edge of the wing will be about 4 inches above the ground ) the front chin area should be much less visible. The plastic plates covering the front nose will need replacing with aluminum armor as quickly as possible. The painted plastic just throws the whole look off too much.

Quit messing with us: you're actually building a real Snowspeeder aren't you? ;)

It's a thing of beauty.

Are you gonna put a faux landing skid over that front wheel to kind of hide it?

Yes, a skid cover on all three wheels has been the plan. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. We've been working on the backside. Notice I haven't shown any pictures of the tail end yet?

Thanks for all the nice compliments guys. One day soon I hope we come to a town near you, so you can all sit in it.

No reason to hint around man. Don't be shy. Come see it anytime. It is at Northwest Regional Airport about 1 mile from Texas Motor Speedway. Give me a PM for the address.

Anyone else in town is welcome too. Anytime.

So, You're mostly done with this right?

Your photos are dated from May, and we're in July now, you're just leading us up slowly to the current day but this has all already unfolded :D

If you do come to my town I'm gonna be first in line to sit in the cockpit and go phew phew phew phew!
