SyFy cancels Caprica

I just hope that they give it any kind of wrap-up and not a chop block ending. For those who did watch it, I hope that they could throw us a bone.:unsure

I believe they wrapped filming quite some time ago, so don't expect any sort of closure. :unsure

One thing I HATED in Caprica is that they made absolutely no attempt to make the props look either futuristic or look like they are from another planet. At least in the first SciFi BSG they stuck something on the guns to make them look different. In Caprica nothing is changed, the cars are even the same.

I just read more on what's happening. I can't believe Syfy started Caprica early only to cancel it early. The last 5 episodes are finished from what I understand. Why not show them now and start something new next year. Why cut the show immediately? What are they going to fill Caprica's spot with? Some rerun most likely. Caprica might be a slow show but the way Syfy handled Caprica is almost "How to Kill a TV Show 101."

Could be budgetary concerns. They have the older stuff, might lose the rights on it, need to use it. Could be that the older stuff is cheaper to run than the new stuff, so better to run it and save a buck than put the new stuff out.

But yeah, I haven't bothered with that network in ages. Basically not since the BSG finale, and it's not like I was watching a ton outside of that. ******* ghost hunting shows, wrestling, and movies that even Roger Corman would say "Wow. What a piece of **** THAT was..." Yeah, think I'll pass.

It's such a shame.
When Sci-Fi launched, it was so full of promise!
They didn't have the rights to Star Trek (yet) but they were planning to get it, and Lost in Space, to the extent that they hired June Lockhart and Nichelle Nichols nd a bunch of other TNG related people to "hang out" at their launch party in Anaheim.
I remember thinking how cool it would be to have my old favorites and some new Sci-Fi series on a channel I could keep on all the time.
Heck, it still seems like a good idea to me, I just guess there aren't enough of people like me to keep a channel on the air. Hence, Ghosts and Wrestling. And "ScyFy" as they drift away from the original idea and into another of hundreds of similar channels.

I liked Caprica too, though I think the holobands and virtual reality stuff could have been it's own concept and it's own series (and possibly was) I was really digging it as they started to use the cylons for battles and started making thousands of them.
Too bad that came so late.

I was there at the dawn of the SCIFI channel. When they showed science fiction. It's time to let it pass.

EXCUSE ME??? Eureka, Warehouse 13, even Haven Don't deserve to be dumped because of a few Snoot snoots here.

Caprica did move too slowly for the average SF fan. I see where it was going, basically Zoe and Tamara's engrams would have been mass imprinted in all the Centurions, and her Faith in One God, and scorn of the Decadence of the colonies, along with Tamara Adama's Tauran Cunning and Ruthlessness would have led to the anomaly which created the Cylon Rebellion.

Frankly they should have started the series with the Cylons in full production, Raiders, Basestars and all, Have them also serving as personal Servants, and show them being abused, treated as nothing more than Toasters, THEN bring in the VR elements. You could have started the rebellion at the end of season 1, and had people hooked.

I agree with what the others have said, Scifi has gone past its prime. I remember during the day even a few years ago you'd have marathons of old scifi and even some newer shows. I'm waiting for them to start getting more reality shows (is that scare tactics one still on?) I only stop on the channel to complain about how crappy it is to my friends. I would have watched Caprica if they'd started closer to the rebellion.

I think they needed to replace Eric Stolz with a stronger lead actor. I'm thinking...wait for it...Michael J. Fox!

(I can almost hear the groans. C'mon, somebody had to make the joke. ;-) )

I don't know how the SyFy channel is structured. But the original shows I watch on the channel are good to me at least. Shows like Caprica, Haven, Eureka (I need to start from the beginning), SGU, and Sanctuary (also need to start from the beginning). I'm curious if Caprica was so expensive that the number of viewers it was pulling wasn't making it worth SyFy's money and time. Which is a bad way to run things. Many great shows won't get viewers like the average show for the masses.

I do like Eureka i have to admit, its nicely off the wall. Well I think syfy lost alot of viewers when Dr Who went to BBC America. Its not just their original shows that aren't the best, their original movies make my 1950s b-movie collection look like grade A material. Tonight they had one about little red riding hood's decedent being a werewolf hunter lol. i think part of the problem is that getting the rights to existing shows are so expensive they go with making their own and it doesn't always work out for the best.

Funny to me that if people dislike a show they are happy when it is cancelled. Tons of shows I don't watch, but with so many channels I could care less if they are on, and if they are or not I have no feelings about at all - and if I don't watch a show why would I even comment on it? Some of the folks around here just like to complain even when they don't care about the topic - funny people.

I watched the show, but it was slow. It had its moments and I was hopeful it would pick up. Oh well - no big loss.
