Hi all!

I recently made my first sword prop purchases.

First, I broke down and picked up Museum Replicas Serenity Reaver sword & axe. They aren't screen accurate, but they're still pretty cool. Plus the set is on closeout for $150 ($166.95 shipped). They were made by Windlass from high carbon tempered steel.

Second, I picked up a Factory X Buffy Scythe pretty cheap. I think the blade is made of zinc.

I've never owned swords before and am wondering what you guys would recommend I use to clean, polish, and protect these items. Also, the scythe has a few scratches on the blade. Is there any way to buff/sand them out?

Thanks!

KH

I haven't taken any pics of my actual items yet (just got 'em yesterday), so here are some stock pics.

Museum replicas sells tubes of polich called Metal Glow. It's my favorite polish for carbon steel blades.

most of windlass' swords come with a clear laquer finish over the blades. as long as that clear coat isnt worn off you dont have to do anything to the sword

Read somewhere, they use "beeswax" to prevent rust on armor and swords. Apply the beeswax, then heat the metal with a hairdryer to melt the wax to ensure a even spread on the surface and flow into the spores. I have not tried it, but it was recommended by an expert sword maker from damascus.

Thanks for the responses everybody! It's appreciated! (y))

Anyone know how to buff out (or otherwise conceal) scratches on a blade?

Most Windlass Swords I have never had any clear coat on them, now some of my Paul Chen stuff does. Renaissance wax is good too, you just need to reapply it every few weeks. But never ever use Brasso on carbon steel, ever.
