Sweeney Todd replicas from NECA?

Greetings.

I've heard rumors that the new NECA catalogue (possibly for dealers?) has some Sweeney Todd props/replicas in it, but haven't been able to find anything by way of official confirmation.

Does anyone have any information on this, and if so, are there any better pictures than the rather small one presently shown on the bay? Are there things other than the razor?

Looks like the answer is no...

The reason I'm asking is that there is a seller on the Bay right now who is attempting to "pre-sell" Sweeney Todd razors from NECA for about $130 apiece.

Absent any official announcement or alternate vendor, I was unsure whether or not this product was going to be made in a timely fashion. I'm also unable to confirm whether or not the price represents the MSRP or early profiteering.

Since none of those wiser than I have posted (or perhaps no one knows), I will resign myself to patience.

Thanks for reading,

Lingarn

FYI, that looks like a promo pic of the original prop, so'd I'd wait for a pic from NECA before Pre-odering.

I think "toyfair" is in about a month in NY, that's usually where NECA shows off their stuff for the year

...and does it open? Does it have a metal blade?

Didn't see anythign in the description saying it was any more than a static prop, and they don't show the razor open.

It is true that the description leaves something to be desired.

That said, that same store has another version of the razor, sans box, for $40. In that picture, it shows the razor open, though the blade looks rather odd.

I guess the only way we'll know more is if someone finds another store with better details, or better, NECA makes their announcement.

I dunno, if the one in the bag is the NECA one, it leaves a bit to be desired
the tang is way off and I hope it's just bad lighting that makes it look gold.:confused

Yeah, I agree with you there. I think they may just be the first images from the catalog, though, so it could be like MR sometimes where the product is superior to the pictures.

There are a lot of tidbits of information out there; the guy on e-bay says that he has supplemented his auction with promotional images because the only image he has is a small one from NECA's new catalog.

The same image is used for the BigBadToys website, along with the other $40 one; both are categorized as NECA Sweeney Todd stuff.

Additionaly, two different people who are apparently vendors have left comments that there are Sweeney Todd replicas on the NECA myspace page. Darkside Games, whoever that is, posted that there are two versions of the razor; one with a bag for $40 and one with a box for $100, which corroborates the BigBadToys website.

Overall, this leads me to believe that NECA is making these replicas, that the images shown are the first images from the catalog, and that the e-bay guy is profiteering with his $130 pricetag.

Damn... And I spent so much time on my replicas... I still wanna get a few of these now...

I know what you mean! I've also sculpted my own on the side. However, given that there are seven different sides that were made for the movie, I view this more as an opportunity than a setback. It seems unlikely that NECA will have made razors with all of the different sides, but a decent quality replica (if that is indeed what we are seeing) will provide a clearer basis for the size etc. for sculpting the others.

If someone were clever enough, they may even be able to make them compatible, so that you could switch out sides as you please. This is all speculative, of course; if the replica is poor, no one will bother.

Seven sets that were made initially, I'm fairly certian only two were used in the final flick.

I think you are probably right; according the the Original Prop Blog copy of the LA Times article, two razors were chosen as "hero" razors.

Even so, given that a proper barber should have seven razors, and a picture exists with at least six of the designs, I see little reason to limit the creativity of the aspiring hobbyist.

I also seem to recall in the Sweeney Todd movie book a picture of the open box that had a partial view of a razor with a design that I couldn't identify until I saw that Blog; it is possible that the other designs were in the box, but not used by Mr. Todd in the film. There again, I could be wrong. :wacko

I missed the pre-order for the neca razor :cry

does anyone know if there's anywhere else i can pre-order??

I personally vouch for none of these, as I have dealt with none of them.

There are a couple on the bay, for $130 and 120, I think.

Interestingly, BigBadToys has expanded their selection of items to pieces of apparel, and others:

That's all I found with a quick search.

Looks like there is another replica out there that isn't NECA. Check it out.

I've seen that, and I admit, it is the best non-NECA I've seen so far. For fan sculpts, nickytea had some up for sale, as did sithcamaro, someone cut similar handles for a real straight-razor, and possibly one more that I can't quite recall at the moment.

Does anyone know more about Acme Brand? From the auction, I assumed that it was a superior fan sculpt rather than a licensed replica.

I'm on the fence as to whether or not I like the "Benjamin Barker 1832" stamp on the blade. I understand it - but is it necessary?

No, it's not necessary; but neither is in the innacurate second side; bottom line: that replica looks gorgeous.

And when NECA's hit, I'll probably pick up a set myself.

NECA'S looks pretty nice to me i pre-ordered 2 of them :cool
