Supernatural Season 8 *SPOILERS*

I do agree, that if they were to focus on one or just a few things it would get boring. But they have introduced so many new things in just this one season, and it’s the last one. There is material from previous seasons they could have continued with, or built upon.

I’m just not a fan of a lot of it.

...But it isn't the last one? Where did you read that? Both Jensen and Jared have agreed for a 9 and 10. If the CW signs it (which, no one knows and we probably won't know until April) then they'll do it.

I think they're gearing up for some really great story telling. I've personally been interested, especially with the last few episodes.

To each their own, though. I can't hate on people who don't like the same things I do, but I wish I understood your reasoning a little bit better.

The Men of the Letters group came out of left field, and yes this does open up possible stories and plots in the future. But, if this is truly their last season, all of these new ideas and back-stories are being wasted since we’ll most likely never see them again.

These last two seasons have been weak, ill-thought out, and not that interesting. These are just my feelings, I’m not trying to antagonize anyone. There have been some pretty decent episodes to come from this not so adequate writing.

The ratings suggest that this won't be their last season. Not saying that they aren't going to get cancelled, but I seriously, seriously doubt it at this point unless they plummet drastically between now and April.

Which means that these plot points have the chance to expand into something truly great.

I will say that I partially agree with you about season 7. That had great potential, and it feels like they sizzled it down into a messy pile. As a whole, the season wasn't great, but it had a few episodes that kept me on my toes.

I enjoyed season six, though. That I know is an unpopular opinion.

If I came of as antagonistic, I apologize. That wasn't my intention either. I'm just respectfully disagreeing with you about this season. :) I look forward to seeing next week's episode, as usual.

No need to apologize, you did not come off as an antagonist. We both enjoy the show, and our opinions differ, that is why this thread is here, to discuss them. I was just afraid that I might have come across a little harsh.

Actually, I enjoyed season 6 as well.

Supernatural has officially been renewed for a 9th. As of this morning.

My advice is to keep watching, dude. Your theory that there are too many open SL's might actually be something great. ;)

Well I saw that coming a mile away with Sam, but it was a pretty good episode otherwise. Anyone want to make bets on the last Trial? I'm pretty sure it's got to be "Kill the King of Hell."

I somehow see Lucifer coming back into play.

Not sure where the whole Amanda Tapping/Angel thing is going though.

I can see The Men of Letters thing becoming a bigger storyline.

I enjoyed the episode. I feel like we're being set up for an emotionally soul crushing finale, though. Yikes.

I know, I know. Surprise, surprise. This IS Supernatural, afterall.

I feel like the final test that Sam will have to pass to close the Gates of Hell will somehow involve Lucifer.

He's locked away, with no way to get to him. I don't think they'll go with him, but definitely Crowley, the King of Hell. You can't slam shut the gates of Hell without dealing with him.

I get the feeling that Cas will be the one to finally kill Crowley. Maybe Crowley can only be killed by 'the blood of a redeemed messenger'.

Uhhhh .. yeah. That was a bad episode. Anyone get the feeling they're trying some back door pilots here?

First we had "A Boy and His Golem"

Now we had "A Boy and his Dog"

Besides the bestiality jokes, this was pretty lousy. Since when are witches NOT backed by getting their powers from a Demon, as has been the entire backstory of every witch we've seen? Now we've got a 'good witch' community that is big enough to have it's own hang out.

Pass. No more backdoor pilots please.

Can't say I really cared for that episode, there just wasn't any substance to it.

I do love that Sam is the one to do the trials, being as he's always been the 'cursed' one meant for evil things, it's about time they gave him something like this. The coughing up blood though, wonder if it is a reflection that something is being rejected as far as him partaking in these tasks, or if there's a time limit he has to complete them. I'm also waiting for the first Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade joke. Only the penitent man shall pass...

Not even I could get passed the beastiality jokes. It was the first thing to pop into my mind. Every time I looked at her a cringed. That was just wrong.

That last one with Prometheus was a bit better. I like that they explored a bit more some of the Pagan gods, and I was amused by the take down of him after getting up from the coroner's table.

As for Sam, it's clear that these stages of the God Trials will pretty much screw him up, he'll be dead or seriously incapacitated when it's over. His body can't take the force that's being put in him.

And WHERE is Cas?!?!!??! :cry

The writers really do enjoy giving Dean the shaft when it comes to story arcs don't they lol. Dean's pretty much just become the sidekick of the show, he's just kind of "there" now.

Season 1 had a nice balance of Sam and Dean
Season 2 was mainly about Sam and YEDs plans for him, Dean got to shine at the end by killing YED
Season 3 looked like we'd get a good Dean arc what with his demon deal, but that go over shadowed with the whole Sam and Ruby deal
Season 4 was the same thing, looked like we'd get an awesome Dean arc, but his time in hell got the back burner again to Sam's new powers and Ruby.
Season 5 looked like we'd get an awesome balance of Sam and Dean, and then they gave the whole Michael sword thing to Adam and it was all about Sam and Lucifer
Season 6, well Season 6 was just a complete train wreck so we'll pretend it never happened lol
Season 7 was mostly pretty decent, I actually enjoyed it, but then it turned into the Sam show with his broken head and all. Dean got to shine at the last minute by killing Dick Roman
Season 8 I actually had no complaints with up until now, Dean's time in purgatory could have been fleshed out more, and now yet again we're back to the Sam show with him doing the trials and Dean on sidekick duty.

I don't know, maybe I'm just nitpicking but for me this is a lot of the reason I'm getting sick of Sam, it's just become too much, I think we're way over due for a good Dean story arc.

You can't be mad at Season 3 because of the writers strike. Who knows what would have happened with those extra 7 or so episodes.

Sam's role has always been to try and step-out and prove he can take care of himself, that he's not some little kid. Dean's has always been do anything & everything to take care of his little brother. It's been that way since episode 1. All that's changed is the things Sam does get larger in scale, and so do the things Dean has to do to make sure he's OK.

Sam's arcs are about the actions, Dean's are about dealing with Sam's actions. Always have been.

Loved Dean's "prayer" at the end of this ep, and the music. The same music from bobby's death and return episodes. Perfect.

I can't believe last night's episode!!!!! Oh just after she had found her Unicorn!!!! :(

Looks like winding up to a good season finale, just hope they can keep up the pace at this point!
