EDIT: Yeah, I think they must have thrown Thor's sword in the trunk right?![]()
That's been one of the worst things about the post 1-5 seasons. Nothing's impressive.
Remember when a knife that killed Demons was baffling to Sam, Dean & Bobby? and a Colt that killed almost anything was something that was revered and half the story? They spent partial episodes talking about it, finding out how it worked, what it worked on.
Now? Now we get "Hey, Sam & Dean are in a tight spot, what can we do? Oooh look. Thor's Hammer is in the background. Let's use that." God's, their weapons, new monsters etc now get introduced and by-passed like d-grade plot points. Merely subterfuge to get us from one pointless "emotional" argument between the brothers, to the next.
Remember those brilliant lines form the very first episode? "Dude. No chick flick moments!". They really need to pay attention to that.
The actor's aren't phoning it in. The frakkin' writers are.
... and now you've got me started. :darnkids
The forced humour is way out of hand. They're cramming unnecessary humour down our throats every 5 minutes ... and you know it's coming, because they play that same stupid music over and over. That crappy slap-sticky half 80's sitcom, half 80's porn type snippet they've always had. It used to get in the show once every few episodes when Dean would try to be funny, now it's a few times per episode.
They've overplayed Crowley something chronic too. He's a funny dude, but no matter how hard they've tried, he's just never been able to hold a candle to the real evil this show has produced. Sam is strong enough to control Lucifer; they can kill God's; all manner of Demons & evil; Both brothers can come back form hell; Both brothers can live after being to hell; Sam can survive a tortured soul; Dean can survive, and return from, Purgatory; they can even hunt down & kill the Mother of all Evil (Eve) ... heck, the Leviathans were so nasty & evil God had to create an entire new realm to lock them away - and the Winchester brothers handled them ... yet after 4 seasons they still can't deal with Crowley? That's pathetic. He's become a crutch for the writers. Rather than deal with a situation and develop a storyline and leave an episode unfinished to build upon, they simply introduce Crowley with the standard "Howdy Boys. Thanks for doing my dirty work. Get bent moose", and the story flops out.
There's been some fantastic storyline opportunities over the past couple of years, but the writers keep missing the mark and taking the safe road each and every time.
Afraid to say, it seems these writers wouldn't know a compelling story arc if it jumped up and bit 'em in the persqueeter.
