Superman 4 quest for peace

I'm watching superman 4 on television right now and there are parts of the story that it that is pretty good but a lot of it sucks. Could the movie been successful at all with a little help to the story or with the help of more money to the production.

The thing with Nuclear Man could have been better. I read on the wikipage Superman IV: The Quest for Peace - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that Reeves
was to have been playing the role but because they wanted to save money they hired that other actor.
Rosenthal has also described the final film as Cannon stabbing Christopher Reeve in the back. He also revealed on the Deluxe Edition DVD that he and writer Lawrence Konner wanted Reeve to play Nuclear Man as well as his dual roles of Superman and Clark Kent in the film as they imagined the villain being a darker version of the hero in the cloning process. This would be financially expensive and was already explored in minor detail in Superman III so Cannon decided to hire Mark Pillow instead for the part of Nuclear Man in the final film.
I think that would have been a little better movie just by having reeves play Evil and not having those sabertooth clawnails.

The fact that we had already seen that double role in Superman III would have made it corny to have to go through that again in IV. With those ideas and lack of funds... it really couldn't have been saved.

And... though Gene Hackman can play evil... his voice work for Nuclear Man was pretty... well... tame.

Wait a minute...you were watching this movie...voluntarily?!!! I had heard somewhere that the Gov, uses this as a form of torture to get people to talk.

Clearly, Conny has some pretty dark secrets he wants kept hidden, so he's building up his resistance so They can't make him talk with this method! :lol

Hey!! I survived "Manos: Hands of fate "so Superman 4 is like a masterpiece compared to that movie.

Could also be that i'm Swedish. :p

No... it's not. Manos didn't have Jon Cryer.

I just want to point out two examples of my favorite bits from Superman IV.

See? Not only are the effects outstanding, but so were the location scouts, the set decorator, principle photographer and pretty much everyone involved in this scene that somehow missed just one tiny detail about the location. I give you a hint. Superman is fake, but that big poster on the wall is not.

But my favorite head desk moment has got to be the museum scene where Lex gets Superman's hair. There is this statue in the background that...

Well, I guess Superman isn't shy about how artists choose to render his junk in a museum for all ages. This is about as pleasant as Coleman Francis' open leg shot from Red Zone Cuba! :sick

*Thank you Agony Booth!*

Reeve really did try in the movie too which is the sad part. This is the best example why the original creative team of Tom Mankiewicz (RIP) and Richard Donner should have never been let go with Superman II.

If you watch the Deleted Scenes for Superman 4... there was another Nuclear Man who was more like Bizarro, but it was more goofy than serious!

Only way to play Bizarro is to not play him as a neanderthal or dumb. He's backwards, sure... but he's supposed to be like Superman... and not like a dumb-ass jock for brains.
